Olive was born fifteen minutes after her older sister Riley, the apple of their father's eye. Then years later, came their mother's not-so-secret favorite, August 'Auggie' Matthews. Then there was Olive. She was loved by her parents, but she always felt like an outsider. She didn't know why. Maybe because Auggie was always with their mother, so her adoration for him came easily. Or because Riley was so much like their father that his love for her was like a second nature. She only knew that she was Cory and Topanga's daughter and she felt like someone who didn't belong. He taught her, she loved her, but it didn't feel like enough. It got worse as they grew up and met friends and Olive was the outsider. Riley befriended Maya Hart, who climbed through their bedroom window and naturally clung to Riley's positivity. Auggie befriended neighbour Ava Morgenstern, a stuck-up little girl who lit up Auggie's whole world.

Who did Olive befriend, you may ask?

Well, Farkle Minkus of course. The nerdy, hyperactive boy who had a crush on Riley and Maya since first grade. The same boy who held Olive's heart for just as long. He was cute and happy and never forgot to include Olive. While he was best friends with her, he never failed to mention his love for her twin and Maya, both of whom didn't feel the same way. But Olive had gotten used to it and decided that she was going to be friends with Farkle; that was enough. She was going to have her own life and not dwell on what she didn't have. She was going to continue to love Farkle while Maya fell over Olive's and Riley's uncle Josh and Riley, herself, fell more in love with new boy Lucas. She was just going to pretend that it wasn't as obvious as she knew she made it. She just wished that Farkle saw it the same way.

Currently, Olive was in her room, which became hers shortly after her eleventh birthday when she and Riley decided they were too old to be sharing. Cory and Topanga gave Olive the room beside Auggie's, which was half the size of Riley's. When she complained, Cory would tell her that it was what she had before and when she reminded him that Riley and even Auggie had twice what she had, Topanga told her to move back into Riley's room if she wanted. 'It has the bay window, though,' Olive's mother would say 'and you know Riley and Maya love that window.' Olive wasn't complaining about her room anymore, but that didn't mean it was fair.

"O!" Auggie called from the kitchen. "Mom says dinner is almost ready!"

Olive failed to hear, earphones in as she blasted music. She was lying upside down, trying to draw at the same time, which came out more successful than she believed it would have. Her sneakers were tapping against the headboard, the white on the tip having been colored in, one by Auggie (aluminum yellow) and since he had done it with one, Olive done the other with aluminum green. It strangely mixed well with her dark grey leather.

"Olivia Morgan Matthews!" Olive's mother's voice was louder than her music and she pulled her earphones out with a surprised yelp, falling off her bed with a thud. "I heard that! Dinner! Now!"

Olive took her time going to the kitchen, her hoodie sleeves rolled to her elbows and pizza grease from lunch still on her jeans. She wasn't surprised to find that not only had the family not waited for her, but that Maya was sitting beside Riley, leaving Olive to the head of the table, opposite her father.

"Took your time," Auggie smirked.

"Auggie." Topanga scowled. "Eat your vegetables."

"What's so interesting about your room that you stay stuck in there all day?" Maya asked Olive as she helped herself to some pasta.

Olive snorted. "Says the one who can sit at the Bay Window for days on end without saying or doing anything."

"She has you there, girls." Cory laughed, digging into his food when Riley and Maya both sent glares his way.
