There he was. Joy felt a genuine smile beam onto her face when she saw her best friend waiting for her in his beloved jeep outside her house. She yelled goodbye to her mother before rushing out of the house, jumping into the passenger side of the jeep. Scott had his bike, and her car was in the shop, so Stiles generously offered to give her a ride to and from school until it was finished. Stiles didn't know her car was sitting neatly and working perfectly fine in her garage, and she was making excuses about why they hadn't finished with it. She just loved the car rides she had alone with the human boy.
"Scott and I have practice today." Stiles told her, something he knew she knew but he told her anyway. "You don't have plans, right? You don't mind waiting?"
Joy smiled. "We both know I don't mind sitting through your practices, Stiles."
He snorted. "Yeah, but Lydia has that party going on in a few days. Figured she might've roped you in helping."
Joy laughed. "Lydia learnt her lesson from last time."
Stiles had to chuckle at that. Lydia threw a party a few months before and she had Kira and Joy help her, unintentionally making it twice as hard to plan the party. Kira was good at planning, at keeping things organised, but Joy was terrible. She was one of those people that could trip over her own feet, while standing completely still, over a plain, solid flat ground. She was human, like Stiles, and helped with the supernatural world when it was needed. Unlike Scott's mom and Stiles's dad, Joy's parents had no idea about her secret life. But they didn't care anyway. They were hardly ever home. She had spent half her childhood between the Stilinski and McCall houses, since she was best friends with the boys that lived in them. Lydia had learnt from experience to leave the blonde out of planning. She was fine with that; she could enjoy the actual party rather than the setting beforehand.
"So, I was thinking maybe after practice we could stop off at the garage? Check on your car?" Stiles suggested as they pulled into the parking lot of the school.
Joy's eyes widened. "No, it's fine. They said it should be fine in the next few days. I'll have it back by Monday."
Stiles frowned. "Still. There was nothing seriously wrong with it. You could've let me handle it and then you would've had it done in half the time."
Joy laughed. "No offense, Stilinski, but the only way you know how to mend cars is with duct tape."
The two of them climbed of the jeep and Stiles patted the hood affectionately. "Hey, my jeep is running smoothly."
"Your jeep could be in better condition." Joy confessed.
Stiles mock gasped, his hands over his heart before turning to his vehicle. "Don't listen to her. Joy doesn't know what she's saying. She's crazy,"
She hit his arm playfully. He turned and grinned down at her. It was then that Joy noticed how attractive this boy actually was. It was something she noticed early on, of course, but the way his long hair stuck up in every direction and the way the sun hit his goofy grin that made her adore him twice as much. He didn't notice her fond smile and threw his arm around her shoulders in a friendly manner, just as Scott approached them with Kira under his arm.
"I have Chemistry first." Kira patted her boyfriend's chest. "We should leave now or we'll be late."
Stiles raised an eyebrow. "I spoke to you on the phone this morning," he told Scott. "You left before we did. Why are you just getting here now?"
Scott cleared his throat awkwardly. "We took Kira's car today."
Stiles hummed. "And....?"
Joy giggled. "Stiles..."
