Annie raised her head and a small blush coated her cheeks when her eyes locked with his, but instead of dropping her stare, she decided to give him a small smile, which he returned without hesitation. He proceeded to disappear into a patient's room and she closed her eyes with a sigh, hating the way she loved those beautiful eyes of his and the fact that he was the most gorgeous man she had ever seen. She had had crushes before, but never like this. And never on a guy like Jackson Avery.

"The sexual tension is killing me." Annie's closest friend dropped into the seat beside her and she bit the inside of her cheek, knowing she had witnessed Annie's fangirling from afar. "Damn, Karev, just tell him already."

She glared over at her. "It's not that simple, Callie. We both know it isn't."

She didn't know why she hadn't told Jackson why she had feelings for him, the only reason she could come up with was that they were working together and she didn't think it would work out if they started anything. Callie would snort and give examples to relationships that started off there, including Meredith Gray and Derek Shepherd, Miranda Bailey and Ben Warren as well as her own relationship to Arizona Robbins. Annie, however, didn't think it was wise to mix business with pleasure. If they dated then broke up, she would spend the rest of her career avoiding Jackson as much as she could. Callie had laughed it off, but the awkwardness was there, as she had had relationships before that had been strained after the breakup, including with the now deceased George O'Malley. Annie didn't want to avoid Jackson, or lose his friendship.

She had been working at Seattle Grace Mercy Hospital for a few years now and she had quickly formed a friendship with her mentor, Callie Torres, who helped her realize which department she wished to specialize in; Callie helped her discover her love for orthopedics. She was two years younger than pediatric surgeon, Alex Karev, who was by far her favorite person in the whole world. He took care of her, raised her and when he revealed he wanted to become a doctor, she shared in that love and went down the same career path. She liked to think she was a determined woman, although her sarcastic side often got her into trouble. Her determined side of her personality came in handy when it came to becoming a doctor alongside Alex; she wasn't willing to lose, not if she could help it. She wanted to be a doctor so damn, she was going to be a doctor. She and Alex were both stubborn, too.

Shaking her head, Callie opened her bag of chips and Annie Katherine one, which she took silently, her sandy brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, so she didn't have to keep pushing it out of her face. "Seriously, Anne. Be bold. I'm sure he'll satisfy you in the sack."

Annie laughed. "You're terrible, Cal."

"You need to get laid."

"No she doesn't." Both she and Callie turned to the right to see Alex and Meredith prepared to check on the same patient they had together. Her brother's face showed nothing short of disgust. She once thought she and Alex were past the stereotypical brother/sister relationship but maybe it was because while she wasn't a virgin, she hadn't truly had a boyfriend before.

"Lex-" she began, calling by the nickname he reserved for her and her alone.

"Anne, if you're gonna get laid, do it outside the hospital." Alex told her in a louder voice than his sister liked.

Their two friends both cracked up, sharing in the same look of disbelief of those words coming from the man that slept with half the nurses before he started to look for a serious relationship. "Look who's talking!" Meredith exclaimed.

Annie glared at her brother with a raised eyebrow when all he did was glare at his best friend. "I swear Meredith and Cristina are the only women in this hospital you haven't slept with."
