Week 1

One and a half years later...

I sighed as I stood before the shiny, pearly gates of my new school: Akademi Academy. Dusting off my fancy white uniform skirt, I casted a glance at the rest of my fancy uniform and thought, Well, if I wasn't a snobby rich kid before, I DEFINITELY am now.

I thought I'd never attend a school fancier than Pennystone Academy. Akademi Academy had me sorely mistaken.

Where Pennystone had a simple sky and navy blue shirt/skirt combo, Akademi had a fancy, black, red, and white uniform. The blouse was black with red outlines and buttons, and a white tie and skirt. While the boys had a similar black and red blazer, white blouse, tie, and pants. Pennystone was a simple yet elegant brick building, but Akademi towered over me like the fancy, pristine white, advanced learning facility it was.

Aru nudged my arm to shake me out of my thoughts – a little too roughly, but he muttered an apology when I cast him a glare. "Are you ready, sis?"

I sighed again. "I don't really have a choice, do I? Not like we can go back to Pennystone now, anyway."

Aru sighed, too. "Yeah, I know."

After all, Akademi Academy was all the way in Japan. We weren't in America anymore – not after our father's fashion business, Akiyama Fashion, boomed internationally. Because of that, he decided to pick up our pretend "happy" little family and "show us his roots" in Japan – but it was all just a publicity stunt, of course. Father was way too busy to actually spend time with us – or at least, with me – outside of our shared business moments, and even those moments were becoming few and far in between. He rarely ever showed up to any of my modelling sessions anymore, but honestly? They'd been going much more swimmingly because of it, so I wasn't complaining.

The less I saw him, the better, after all.

"Not that I want to, either," I added. "Sure, it sucks leaving all of our friends behind, but..."

Aru's hand encouragingly squeezed mine. "I know. I get it. Me too, trust me."

Taking a deep breath in and exhaled, I steeled myself. "I'm ready," I finally declared, and together, we stepped onto campus.

Of course, being new students and transferring in after spring break, we stood out already – but being the Akiyama kids, we stood out even more as students whispered amongst each other, casting us plenty of glances and double takes as we all walked towards the school building.

"So, what's your plan at this school?" Aru asked out of the blue.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, new school, new you, right? How are you gonna rebrand yourself?"

I thought about it. "I'm not sure. I might play Cupid here, too. Or I might just try to blend in."

Aru scoffed. "Good luck with that one. You know blending in as an Akiyama isn't really possible."

I sighed, rolling my eyes. "Yeah, I know." Then I shot back with a grin, "What about you? How are you rebranding yourself?"

My half brother smirked – like he'd been waiting for me to ask. "Glad you asked, sis. I'm gonna make sure people here know not to mess with me."
