NICO

Nagising ako dahil sa mga salitang nanggagaling mula sa labas kaya napagpasyahan ko ng bumangon.

As soon as I stepped out of my room, agad akong sinalubong ni Shawn.

"Nics, we have a problem" bungad niya sa akin.

I raised an eyebrow at him as I sat down on the sofa na katapat niya lang.

"What is it?" I asked, making him sit up straight.

"Sabi ni Tito Clint isang linggo daw muna tayong pahinga sa resto bar niya" he replied, scratching his head.

"Ha? Eh hindi naman natin kasalanan yun ah," yamot na sabi ni Kuya Dave na kakagaling lang sa kusina.

"Well, wala tayong magagawa kasi kasama natin siya," sabi ni Shawn and he sighed. "Gulo ng isa, damay ng tatlo."

The 4th bedroom door opened, and Glen stepped out, looking tired with a visible bruise on his face.

We all turned to look at him.

"Problema niyo?" Glen asked, irritation clear on his face.

"Ikaw" Kuya Dave pointed at him.

Glen had gotten into a fight at the bar last night, kaya natigil ang gig namin at umuwi ng maagap.

I clenched my fist ng maalala ang nangyari kagabi.

"Me?" Glen laughed mockingly, pointing to himself. It was obvious na nang iinis siya.

I couldn't hold back any longer. I stood up and grabbed the collar of his shirt.

"Yang kayabangan mo ang problema namin"

"Nico, calm down" si kuya dave na pilit tinatanggal ang mga kamay ko sa kwelyo ng gagong 'to.

"Nics, tama na yan" Shawn added.

"Ano?? Are you going to punch me?" mapanghamon na sabi ni Glen.

"Nico calm yourself, hayaan na lang natin yang mokong na yan" Kuya Dave whispered to me, making me look at him.

He gave me a "please" look so I sighed.

"Umalis kana" pasigaw na sabi ko bago patulak na binitawan ang kanyang damit.

"Aalis na talaga ako, tingnan lang natin kung makakahanap pa kayo ng kapalit ko" huling sinabi niya bago bumalik sa kanyang kwarto para kunin lahat ng gamit nya.

After he left, the three of us sat in silence. Shawn and Kuya Dave sat on the long sofa, while I returned to my seat.

"Don't worry guys, hahanap ako ng mas magaling mag-drum sa siraulong yun" Shawn broke the silence.

"Tama! may 1 week pa tayo bago makahanap ng kapalit niya" pagsang ayon naman ni kuya dave.

Shawn and I were high school classmates, while Kuya Dave was a year ahead of us. We formed our band during a school event. We used to compete a lot, sometimes winning, sometimes losing.

Shawn played bass, Kuya Dave played electric guitar, and I was the vocalist. We didn't have a permanent drummer; kung sino lang avail non yun ang nakakasama namin.

In our second year of college, Shawn and I, and in his third year, Kuya Dave, decided to turn our talent into a source of income.

We gigged at Clinton Resto Bar dahil sa mga bigateng mga napasok don, Shawn's uncle owned the resto bar at tumatayong manager namin.

In our one year of gigging, Glen was our fourth drummer. No one lasted long because of my temper, especially towards arrogant people like Glen. My patience was thin, and my tolerance for disrespect was even thinner.
