Nang makapasok kami sa boarding house, agad kong napansin ang dami ng tao na nasa living room. Judging by their casual conversations and relaxed posture, I assumed they were other boarders staying here.
"Nico, akala ko niloloko lang ako ni Gela na bumalik ka." A woman in her 40s greeted with a warm smile.
Nico gave her a small smile.
She glanced over at me, her brow raising slightly. "Hindi mo pala kasama si Shawn."
"Hindi tita, girlfriend ko po ang kasama ko." Nakangiti siyang humarap sa akin.
Babaeng kaibigan lang yan, Maloi. Wag kang assumera.
"Oh, I see." she said before giving me a kind smile. “Ilang araw kayo mag-stay dito?”
“Uuwi na po kami sa Manila bukas.” Uyab answered.
"O siya, kumain na tayo bago pa lumamig ang pagkain!" she called out to the other boarders, motioning for everyone to gather.
Matapos ang masarap na dinner, nagkwentuhan pa sila ni Uyab. Ako naman ay tahimik lang at nakikinig. Pero maya-maya, bumalik na kami sa kwarto.

Nag-half bath kami parehas—syempre, pinauna ako ni Uyab. Hindi kami nagsabay.
By the time I finished, I was already lying on one side of the bed, waiting for her to come out of the bathroom. The bed was small—probably too small for two people—but somehow, that thought didn’t bother me as much as.
When she finally came out, I noticed she was heading toward the door.
“San ka pupunta?” I asked, sitting up slightly.
“Hihiram lang ako ng panlatag.” she said casually, as if that explained everything.
“Bakit?” I asked, my brows furrowing.
"Maliit yung bed, baka hindi ka maging comfor—"
“Uyab.” hindi ko siya hinayaang matapos. "Ilang beses na tayong nagtabi.."
"Baka kasi..." she started.
"Baka kasi ano?"
She bit her lip. "Baka kasi magreklamo ka mamaya na masikip."
"The only complaint you'll hear from me is if masyado kang malayo."
She just shrugged her shoulder. “If you say so.”
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding, saka niya pinatay ang ilaw at naramdaman na ang kaniyang presensya sa tabi ko.
Sa sobrang liit ng kama, halos hindi ko na alam kung paano magkasya. Kulang na lang, yakapin ko na siya ng tuluyan dahil sa sobrang dikit namin.
"You can hug me. Wag ka nang mahiya." she murmured softly.
Mind reader ba siya? Lagi niya na lang nababasa ang sinasabi ng utak ko.
She gave me permission kaya tumagilid ako paharap sa kanya at dahan-dahang yumakap. The warmth of her body against mine sent a rush of heat through me, even though the room was cold.
Despite the lack of an aircon or even an electric fan, I still felt the chill in the air. Lalo na nang mapansin kong wala pala kaming kumot.
Alam kong naramdaman niya ang panginginig ko, dahil mas lalo siyang dumikit. Nilagay niya ang braso niya sa ilalim ng ulo ko na ginawang unan. Her other arm draped over my waist, pulling me gently into her warmth.
