something's missing

the group split evenly into two groups of four;
there were different interests and different
favourite movies so it made sense that there
was going to be a split. the plan after lunch
was to meet up at the same spot and later
enjoy a portion of the park together; and for
a while you were glued to atsumu, bokuto,
and hinata.

to say you four were the sunshine quad was
not an understatement.

the energy to explore the entire park never
faded, and even though you were starting to
get tired and a little cold, their energy was
contagious enough to keep you going. there
were pictures of everything, videos of everything,
and time was spent admiring every inch of
the park.

of course, then, a break was necessary.

the four of you stopped at the 'my neighbour
totoro' observatory hill, taking in the slight
breeze and little bit of sunshine as you
overlooked the view of the park. while hinata
and bokuto sat at a bench reviewing their
photos and videos, you and atsumu stood
away from them to lean on the fence.

atsumu
"pretty, yeah?"

your head turns to atsumu as he speaks, and
you listen with a smile.

atsumu
"even when it's not nice--
uhh i mean like spring. or
like summer. or fall."

atsumu hums as he tilts his head, a slight
furrow to his brow. he didn't expect to
fumble his words.

atsumu
"well, at least it's almost
spring."

you laugh at his amusing expression.

"yeah."

"it is pretty."

"wish suzume was here to see it."

atsumu gives you a cheeky grin.

atsumu
"send 'er a picture."

atsumu
"it'll be like she was 'ere
with ya."

you roll your eyes as he bumps his shoulder
with yours.

"it is so not the same."

you two share a laugh before your gazes were
both turned back to the view. you both take it
in, basking in the breeze and the beauty. it was
a nice experience to share, but something felt
just a bit off for some reason.

was it because suzume wasn't there?

"i think i miss suzume."

atsumu laughs.

"we can always come back
with 'em."

your nose scrunches.

for some reason, that didn't seem to satisfy you.
but you don't comment on it.

"yeah."

atsumu
"even with nikou 'n hana."

atsumu smiles but you didn't turn to look at him.
