A/N: Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've had no inspiration until now. So ya lol.

As the group stepped through the newly unlocked door, they found themselves in an eerie, dimly lit room. Shadows danced across the walls, revealing what appeared to be a massive chessboard covering the entire floor.

"Where are we? A graveyard?" Harry asked, looking around with a mixture of curiosity and unease.

Ron shook his head, his eyes scanning the intricately carved statues around them. "This is no graveyard," he said, sighing as he stepped forward to get a closer look. "It's a chessboard."

The room suddenly illuminated as flames flickered to life around the edges of the board, casting a warm, golden light. Harry and Hermione joined Ron, their eyes widening as they took in the sight.

"There's the door," Hermione said, pointing to a large, imposing door at the far end of the board.

As they began walking across the chessboard toward the door, the ground trembled slightly. Suddenly, the pawns on the board lifted their swords with a clanking sound, causing the trio to halt abruptly.

"Now what do we do?" Hermione asked, her voice tinged with concern.

Ron stepped back, considering their predicament. "It's obvious, isn't it? We've got to play our way across the room," he said decisively. "Alright. Harry, you take the empty Bishop's square. Hermione, you'll be the Queen-side castle. Y/N, you can be the Rook on the far end. As for me, I'll be a knight."

"Got it," Y/N said, nodding as she took her place next to Hermione.

Hermione, looking a bit apprehensive, asked, "What happens now?"

Ron mounted a horse that had materialized as part of the chessboard's setup. "Well, white moves first. And then... we play."

The tension in the room mounted as a black pawn on the opposite side moved forward, its sword raised menacingly. The white pawn on their side immediately retaliated, raising its sword and smashing the black pawn with a resounding clang. The group jumped back, startled by the violent clash.

"Yes, Hermione. I think this is going to be exactly like wizard's chess," Ron confirmed, his expression tense but focused.

Y/N, gripping her Rook position, observed the game with keen eyes. "Let's stay alert," she suggested. "These pieces look like they don't just play—they fight."

As the game continued, the room was alive with the clashing of pieces and the rhythmic clang of swords. The tension was palpable as Ron, Harry, Hermione, and Y/N maneuvered their pieces with precision. Ron, riding his knight, was visibly focused as he directed their side through the fierce battle.

"Castle to E4!" Ron commanded, and the castle piece charged forward, smashing into a black pawn with a resounding boom.

"Pawn to C3!" Ron shouted next. The white pawn surged forward and smashed another black piece, causing the Queen on their side to spin and smash an opposing piece with impressive force.

Harry winced as the pieces collided around them. "This is crazy!" he shouted over the din. "We need to stay focused!"

As the game raged on, Ron's eyes narrowed as he studied the board intently. "Wait a minute," he said suddenly.

Harry, noticing Ron's intense scrutiny, asked, "What's wrong?"

Ron looked at Harry and Y/N with a resolute expression. "You understand, right? Once I make my move, the Queen will take me. Then you two will be free to check the King."

"No. Ron, no!" Harry protested, his voice filled with panic.

Y/N, hearing their conversation, turned to them with a worried expression. "What is it?"

Harry, his face a mix of concern and determination, explained, "He's going to sacrifice himself!"

Hermione's eyes widened in horror. "No, Ron, you can't!" she cried out. "There must be another way!"

Ron, facing Hermione with unwavering determination, said, "Do you want to stop Snape from getting that Stone or not? Harry, Y/N—it's you two that have to go on. Not me. Not Hermione. You!" He then turned to Harry. "Knight to H3."

Ron's horse moved forward, sliding into position. "Check."

The Queen on the board turned and advanced toward Ron's knight. As she started moving, Ron breathed faster, clutching the steel reins of his mount. The Queen raised her sword and, with a crushing blow, smashed the horse's hips. Ron was thrown off the horse, landing heavily on the floor, unconscious.

"Ahhhh!" Ron cried out as he was flung from the horse.

"RON!" Harry shouted, rushing to his side.

"No, don't move!" Y/N called out, stepping toward Ron but then halting as Harry took his place on the board. "Don't forget, we're still playing."

Harry moved diagonally, positioning himself in front of the King. "Checkmate," he declared.

As the game ended, the black King's sword fell to the ground in defeat, and the room fell silent. Harry and Y/N rushed to Ron's side, and Hermione quickly joined them, kneeling beside him.

"Take care of Ron," Harry said urgently, his voice filled with concern. "Then go to the owlery. Send a message to Dumbledore. Ron's right. We have to go on."

Hermione, tears in her eyes, looked up at Harry. "Harry, are you sure? You and Y/N need to be careful. This is dangerous."

Y/N, her eyes filled with worry, added, "We'll be okay. You'll get Ron to safety."

Hermione nodded, though her face was a mix of worry and determination. "I'll take care of him. Go on, and be careful."

Harry, his face set with resolve, replied, "Not as good as you."

Hermione smiled, despite the worry in her eyes. "Me? Books and cleverness? There are more important things. Friendship, and bravery. And Harry, just be careful."

Hermione squeezed Harry's shoulder, her eyes showing both pride and concern. "You two are braver than anyone I've ever known. Go. I'll handle Ron and get the message to Dumbledore."

Harry and Y/N shared a final, resolute look. "I will," Harry said. With one last nod to Hermione, they turned and headed toward the next challenge.

As they walked away, ready to face whatever awaited them, Hermione turned her full attention to Ron, gently checking his condition and preparing to get him to safety.
