The sun was shining brightly as I waited just outside the amusement park gates, bouncing on the balls of my feet. I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. It had been a while since Sho and I had done something like this, and after everything that had happened, a day of fun and relaxation was exactly what we needed.
Sho arrived a few minutes later, looking as composed as ever, but I could see a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips and he was certainly not getting rid of that for the rest of the day. Not with how I knew him at all. He had this casual yet effortlessly cool look today—just jeans and a simple t-shirt, but somehow it made him look even more striking. I waved at him enthusiastically as he approached.
Me: Hey, Sho! You ready for a day of thrills?
Sho's smile widened just a bit as he nodded.
Sho: I'm ready. I haven't been to an amusement park in a long time, so I'm trusting you to show me the way around.
I chuckled, feeling a rush of affection for him.
Me: Don't worry, I've got us covered. So, where should we start? We could hit the roller coasters first, or maybe the haunted house? Or... oh! There's a new Ferris wheel, and they say the view from the top is amazing.
Sho considered for a moment, his eyes scanning the park behind me.
Sho: How about we start with the roller coasters? Get the adrenaline pumping right away. Then we can take it easy with the Ferris wheel later.
I grinned like a goddamn Cheshire at Alice in Wonderland....
Me: Sounds perfect! Let's do it!
As we entered the park, the sounds of laughter and music filled the air, and I could feel the tension of the past few weeks starting to melt away. The first roller coaster we came across was one of the biggest in the park, with steep drops and loops that made my heart race just looking at it.
Me: This one looks insane! You up for it?
Sho glanced up at the towering coaster, then back at me, a determined glint in his eyes.
Sho: Me up for it? I'm in if you are! I am born ready after all.
We joined the line, which moved quickly, and before I knew it, we were strapped into the seats, the coaster slowly climbing up the first hill. I could feel the anticipation building in my chest, a mix of nervousness and excitement.
Me: I hope you're ready for this, Sho!
Sho turned his head slightly to look at me, and for the first time, I saw a playful sparkle in his eyes.
Sho: HAH! I was about to say the same thing to you.
I barely had time to process his words before we were hurtling down the track at breakneck speed. The wind whipped through my hair, and I couldn't help but laugh as we zoomed through twists, turns, and loops. It was exhilarating, the rush of adrenaline making me forget everything else for the moment.
When the ride finally came to a stop, we both stumbled off, breathless and laughing.
Sho: That was... intense.
Me: Right? I almost thought we were going to fly off the tracks at one point!
Sho shook his head with a small smile.
Sho: You have a strange definition of fun, Izu. But I'll admit, that was... exciting.
I grinned, feeling a warmth spread through my chest at his words.
Me: Glad you liked it. Now, how about something a little less intense? Ferris wheel?
Sho nodded.
Sho: That sounds good. I could use a moment to catch my breath.
We made our way to the Ferris wheel, the giant wheel turning slowly against the bright blue sky. As we stepped into one of the gondolas, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The ride started moving, and soon we were rising higher and higher above the park, the bustling crowds below growing smaller.
Me: Wow, the view really is amazing.
Sho leaned back in his seat, his gaze on the horizon.
Sho: It is. Peaceful, too.
I nodded, feeling a contentedness settle in my chest. This was exactly what I had hoped for—a day where we could just be ourselves, without the weight of everything else hanging over us. I glanced over at Sho, who was still looking out at the view, and I felt a surge of affection for him.
Me: Thanks for coming out with me today, Sho. I know things have been... intense lately, but I really wanted to spend some time with you, just us.
Sho turned his gaze to me, his expression soft.
Sho: I'm glad you suggested it, Izu. We both needed this.
We shared a quiet moment, just enjoying each other's company as the Ferris wheel reached the top. I could see the whole park spread out below us, the colorful rides and stalls looking almost like a toy town from this height.
Me: This was a good idea....
It was something I said more to myself than him. Still he nodded, his hand brushing against mine as we sat there.
Sho: It was. And the day's just getting started.
I smiled, feeling a warmth that had nothing to do with the sun.
Me: Yeah... let's make the most of it.
The gondola started its descent, but the feeling of contentment stayed with me. As we stepped off the ride, I looked over at Sho, and I knew that no matter what happened next, we'd face it together.
Me: So, what's next? Maybe some cotton candy or a game stall?
Sho: I could go for some cotton candy. And maybe we can try one of those rigged game stalls after. I'd like to see you try to win me something.
I laughed, the idea of trying to win one of those impossible prizes oddly appealing.
Me: You're on, Todoroki. Let's see who's better at beating the odds.
And with that, we headed off into the park, who knows what this day was having in stock for us but it would be one hell of a day for sure.
