Upon hearing the jingling of the bells and feeling the sudden coldness on her shoulders, Leah's first instinct was to use her "Paper Doll Substitute."

Her body rapidly shrank and thinned, transforming into a well-crafted paper doll.

The paper doll quickly aged, turning yellow and brittle as if it had been left for decades.

Silently, the aged, yellowed paper doll disintegrated into countless tiny fragments.

Leah's figure reappeared at the staircase, still holding the kerosene lamp, but the next second, she felt the coldness on her shoulder again.

In a flash, she pinched the bridge of her nose and activated her "Spiritual Vision," looking towards the window of the opposite room.

With the night outside as a backdrop, and the dim kerosene lamp light, the glass in the washroom acted like a mirror, reflecting Leah's upper body.

On each of her shoulders sat a translucent, blurry infant!

The two infants had round, chubby faces with pale, bluish skin, and their expressions were twisted in agony.

At that moment, they both bent down, pressing their mouths against Leah's neck as if sucking something from her.

Rather than panic, Leah felt relieved at the sight.

Identifying the source of the anomaly was far better than facing the unknown.

Now, she could assess the problem's nature and take targeted action.

Just like now!

Leah drew her ornate silver pistol and fired at the translucent, terrifying infant on her left shoulder.

Bang!

A golden bullet shot out of the gun, enveloped in an ethereal flame.

The infant instantly wailed, the golden flames burning it as it flew off Leah's shoulder.

Bang!

Leah fired another shot at the infant on her right shoulder.

The ghostly infant, now engulfed in flames, cried out and followed its companion, flying towards the end of the corridor.

There, a female figure emerged, with deep blue eyes, soft features, and long, loose black hair—it was Sibyl Berry, the sister of Shepherd Pierre Berry and the lover of the village priest, Guillaume Bénet.

Her skin was covered in a bluish hue, and two tumor-like growths had appeared on either side of her neck.

The two translucent, blurry infants flew back to her shoulders and began sucking on the corresponding "tumors," as if being nursed.

As they sucked, the golden flames that had been burning them gradually extinguished.

However, Leah wasn't about to let that happen without a fight. She aimed at Sibyl Berry and pulled the trigger.

With a loud bang, the bullet, as if forged from gold, traveled the short distance and struck Sibyl's head.

For reasons unknown, Sibyl didn't even attempt to dodge, and a bloody hole appeared in her forehead.

Inside the wound, milky white and blood-red substances intertwined as the ethereal golden flames quickly consumed them.

Sibyl fell to the ground, showing no signs of life, and the two bluish, translucent infants dissipated with a wail.

Was it really that easy? Leah found it hard to believe.

The silver bells on her veil and boots continued to jingle, even more intensely than before!
