Charlie was dazed and instinctively responded, "No problem."It wasn't until Lumian counted out the 50 félicien in cash that Charlie suddenly realized what was happening. He looked up with fear and caution toward the door.
It was evening now, and unlike the second floor, the fifth floor didn't have large balconies on either side, so the lighting was poor, making it dark as if night had already fallen. Seeing that there wasn't much traffic in the hallway, Charlie relaxed slightly and quietly said to Lumian, "Did you deceive someone, selling a fake necklace as a real one for 1,000 félicien?"
"First of all, it wasn't deception."
"Then who was it?" Charlie asked, puzzled, while instinctively taking the bills in denominations of 1 and 5 félicien.
Lumian's smile suddenly became radiant. "It was the Savoyard."
Hearing this, Charlie nearly dropped the money.
He looked at Lumian with a face full of fear and said, "Are you crazy?
"They kill people. People often go missing in Rue de la Rançon!"
Lumian chuckled, "Secondly, it wasn't deception."
"What?" Charlie couldn't follow Lumian's train of thought at all.
Lumian smiled and explained, "They knew the necklace was fake but were still willing to pay 1,000 félicien for it."
How could that be? Charlie's first reaction was that it was a joke.
The Savoyards might be brutal, but they weren't fools. Why would they pay 1,000 félicien for a necklace that was only worth 50?
Suddenly, Charlie had another thought: "You didn't rob the Savoyard leader, did you?"
That would be even crazier!
Lumian laughed, "Relax, I reached an agreement with Baron Brignell through friendly negotiation. Don't worry; there won't be any problems later on."
"Hey, do you want the 50 félicien or not?"
Friendly negotiation with Baron Brignell... Once again, Charlie felt like he didn't know his neighbor at all.
Considering that he really didn't have much money, he accepted the 50 félicien and muttered, "Thanks."
Lumian smiled and nodded, then turned to leave.
At that moment, Charlie finally began to understand the whole situation and blurted out, "Did you join the Savoyards?"
Lumian didn't turn back but waved his hand. "Yeah."
After returning to Room 207 and just starting to remove his disguise in preparation to go out for some food, Lumian heard familiar curses coming from the fourth floor. "If you think this money is easy to come by, why don't you lie down and earn it yourself?
"Cowards without the guts to stand up, only daring to bully women!
"Bring your mother here if you've got the balls!"
Lumian listened for a few seconds and quickly understood that Wilson from the Poison Sting gang had come with his men to collect protection money from Younes.
A smile slowly appeared on his face.
In the next moment, Lumian put on his dark blue flat cap and walked out of Room 207, heading up to the fourth floor.
He didn't need to get close to Room 8 to hear the slaps, Younes's intensified curses, and the sounds of struggle.
The tenants on that floor had all shut their wooden doors tight; no one dared to step out.
