——☆ FIRE ON FIRE
chapter six: the makeover
AFTER GETTING SETTLED in their living quarters, Lilia Conway and Adrian Reed were separated into different rooms to begin the makeover process. This included being cleaned up, waxed, styled, and prepped for the Capitol's display at the Tribute Parade. The room Lilia was led to was bright, almost blinding, and filled with strange tools that made her feel like she was about to get operated on.
When she arrived inside, the team assigned to her was already waiting, a group of Capitol stylists dressed in uniforms with elaborate hairstyles. At the sight of her, they all smiled in unison.
"Look at you," one of the stylists gushed, approaching Lilia and circling her. "You are a beauty!"
"Thank you," Lilia replied, her quiet voice hinting at her nervousness.
"Don't worry, darling, we'll take good care of you," another one of the stylists said in a chirpy, optimistic voice.
In a matter of minutes, Lilia Conway was stripped of her clothes and submerged into a warm bath filled with sweet-smelling oils and flowers. Her skin was scrubbed until it was raw, and every hair on her body was removed with quick pull.
One of the other stylists noticed Lilia's discomfort and leaned in with a smile, "We're just making sure you're absolutely perfect for tonight. It's all for the cameras, my dear."
Lilia nodded, replying, "Of course."
Once the bath was over, Lilia was dried off and led to a large chair in front of a mirror. As soon as she took a seat, the stylists began their work. Her long blonde hair was brushed out, then styled to fall down her back in soft, effortless waves.
"Should we put it up?" One of the male stylists asked, humming as he played around with different styles.
"No, no," a woman replied, her voice certain. "The loose curls will look much more elegant, and they will accentuate the dress."
As soon as they finished curling her golden locks, they began applying makeup, layering her face with different lotions and powders. Next, they painted her eyes in shades of blue and silver to create a captivating, yet mysterious look.
As the stylists continued their work, Lilia's thoughts drifted to Adrian. What are they doing to him? Is he as overwhelmed as I am? But, there was no time to think much on that, as her thoughts were quickly interrupted. One of the stylists, a woman with neon pink hair, suddenly appeared in front of her, holding up a dress.
Lilia gasped.
It was a deep, rich aqua blue, the color of the sea just before nightfall. The fabric was delicate and shimmering, catching the light in such a beautiful way.
Lilia felt herself go speechless as they slipped the dress onto her, adjusting it to fit perfectly against her body. The neckline plunged just enough to be seductive without being too revealing, and the skirt flowed out in soft waves that reminded her of the ocean.
When they were finally finished, Lilia Conway barely recognized herself. The girl in the mirror looked more like a siren, with her glittering makeup, the aqua blue dress that clung to her skin, and the light curls of hair that framed her face. She looked beautiful.
"I think this is my best work yet," boasted the designer, smiling wide at the sight of her.
There was a knock at the door, and one of the stylists opened it to reveal Adrian Reed. Lilia's breath caught at the sight of him. He, too, had been completely transformed. His dark brown hair was styled back, slick and smooth, and he wore a suit in the same deep aqua blue as her dress.
Adrian's brown eyes were lined with a subtle touch of silver, making them much more striking. There was no mistaking that they were a pair from District 4, as their appearances perfectly resembled that of the ocean landscape.
Standing before her, his eyes widened as he took in Lilia's appearance, a look of shock and admiration crossing his face.
"You look...amazing," he said, his voice growing in awe.
"You too," she replied, a smile appearing on her painted lips.
"Alright, you two, it's time," one of the stylists announced, clapping their hands together. "Let's get you two downstairs for the Tribute Parade."
