LILIA'S FOOTSTEPS ECHOED down the concrete halls of the underground compound. It felt strange to be walking freely again, her body still recovering from the injuries that had almost killed her. For the past week, she wished she had died. But, after talking to Johanna, the girl realized that she wasn't alone.

They were all broken.

And soon, her grief turned into anger. Into a pure hatred toward the Capitol and everyone involved with the murder of her family. The murder of her best friends, Adrian and Maya. She wanted to strike back, to take them down, if it were the last thing she'd do.

The deeper Lilia went into District 13, the more she wondered how they managed to hide from the Capitol for so long. For her entire life, she thought that it was a ghost town, void of any and all human life. That's what the screens told her, at least.

But here they were, fully functional, orchestrating the rebellion.

"Is that...?"

"That's Lilia Conway..."

"She's awake."

The voices around her grew louder as she moved through the hallways, everyone stopping to stare at the girl in disbelief. Lilia could feel their eyes on her, watching her every move.

"Lilia," one more voice called.

Out of all the voices, this one quickly caught her attention. Turning around, her gaze fell on a tall blonde boy standing at the other end of the hallway. At the sight of her, his eyes widened, and he immediately raced forward. However, before he got too close to her, his steps slowed down.

"I didn't know you were out," he said quietly, keeping a few feet between them.

Lilia stared at him for a moment, and then without a word, she stepped toward him and threw her arms around him in an abrupt hug.

Cato froze, momentarily taken aback, his body tensing in surprise. He wasn't expecting it. But after a moment, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer. He could feel the way she was holding on, like she'd been needing this hug for a long time.

"I missed you," she whispered against his chest.

Cato's heart thudded in his chest, and he closed his eyes for a moment, letting himself breathe her in. "I missed you too."

They stood like that for a moment longer, the atmosphere falling away as they held onto each other. Lilia pulled back slightly, her hands still resting on his arms as she looked up at him, her face softening in a way he hadn't seen in weeks.
