THE LIGHTS DIMMED AS Caesar Flickerman stood in the center of the stage, flashing his signature smile toward the audience. As he interviewed the first two tributes, Cashmere and Gloss, Lilia realized that they weren't just trying to impress sponsors. It seemed as though they were using this final interview to send a message, to show the audience that they weren't going down without a fight.

With a sigh, Caesar spoke to the two, "You became everyone's brother and sister. I don't know how are we going to let you go."

"We're not going by choice," Gloss replied, looking out to the audience. "You are our family. And I don't see how anyone can love us better."

"Are you alright dear?" Caesar asked, turning his attention to the blonde girl beside him.

"I'm sorry," Cashmere apologized, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I just can't stop crying."

Inside the viewing area backstage, Lilia shook her head at the screen and turned to Finnick. "Yesterday she looked so happy to be here. Now she's crying in front of the Capitol."

"She's being smart," Finnick replied. "Drawing sympathy from the crowd. These Victors are going to say anything to try and stop the Games from happening."

Lilia hummed in understanding as the brother and sister from District 1 stepped off stage, making their way into the viewing area. As if it were nothing, Cashmere wiped away her tears and returned to a stone cold expression.

On the screen, Caesar Flickerman stretched out his arm, announcing the next tribute, "And now, please welcome from District 2, Cato Hadley!"

The sound of his name immediately caught Lilia's attention, causing her to fixate on the television screen once again. The Capitol citizens cheered wildly as Cato strode onto the stage with a smile, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit.

"Cato!" Caesar called. "You look handsome as ever, and from the looks of it, the Capitol agrees!"

The audience erupted into applause again, and Cato sent them a wink in reply.

"Now, let's get right into it. You've been in the Games before, but this time, there's a lot of talk about alliances...and a particular relationship. Care to share?"

"I'm sure you're referring to Lilia," Cato said.

There was a brief pause as Caesar's grin widened, sensing the drama about to unfold.

"Exactly, Cato," Caesar replied. "Lilia Conway from District 4. The Capitol's been buzzing about you two. Rumors of a certain...forbidden romance growing more. What can you tell us?"

Lilia's breath caught in her throat backstage as she watched the interview closely. Of course, she had expected this, but still, hearing Caesar's words sent a rush of anxiety through her.
