Chapter 1. "Especially you"
Red was an only child, raised by her mom. They had an incredible bond, her mom was her best friend. Her mom herself, Bridget, was always talking about the good old days, how she and her friends at college had the best time. Now she wanted her daughter to get the same experience.
When Red started applying to colleges, there was no doubt that she was going to Auradon prep, same as her mom, and today was the day.
Red and Bridget took a nice long roadtrip to the school, in Auradon. Red couldn't stop fantasizing about her first year. She barely had any friends besides her mom, and never had. She had no experience with love, or anything in general. How was she supposed to room with someone?
"Name please"
- Oh, yeah, hi! I'm Red, this is my first year here at Auradon!
- Red, Red, Red.
The secretary was looking in her computer, searching for my name in the system.
- Oh yeah, you're in room 2 with a girl named Chloe Charming.I felt something twist in my stomach. Who was this girl? How would I talk to her, and what about?
My lack of social skills made me avoid facing strangers, and also added to my already bitchy aura. But I didn't know how to not be like this, I always ended up feeling misunderstood. No one ever tried hard enough to get through my walls. Walls of insecurity, that was perfectly hidden by a bitchy attitude.
After a few moments of separation anxiety from mom I was now pulling out the key to room 2. My heart was racing when I slowly opened the door, to find a gorgeous girl with the most perfect long brown curly hair. She had brown eyes, they were so special. They made her look kind and warming, all the things I wanted to be. But I didn't know how.
- Omg hi! I'm Chloe Charming, you must be Red!
The prefect girl was now hugging me, and I just stood there like a statue, too afraid to move. Too afraid to mess up.
- Yeah hi, you're my roommate I guess. I said awkwardly.
- Yeah I am, exited for the new year? The girl was now taking some space, probably sensing my awkwardness. She got back to the side of her room, while I started to settle down.
- Yeah, I'm excited, kinda.
-
Who knew college would be so overwhelming? New classes, new people and having to act like a goddam grown up. Someone that had it all put together.
I was situated in a big classroom, across the classroom sat Chloe with her friends, that she made in the three days of being here. Crazy I know. I was admiring her, while thinking about how I probably made things hard for her. Being so cold. I understood her not trying to be besties.
Suddenly the teacher of this wired class spoke up.
- Okay class, listen up! Your first assignment will be a team project, you heard me! You're gonna research a psychological question. Take whatever comes to mind, use your imagination. You will present in a few weeks. And also, I thought it was a good idea to pair you up with your roommates since this is an obligational class! So, GO ON!Chloe made eye contact with me across the room, she smiled and made her way over.
- Guess where partners, she says with her wide smile, her curls almost touching the desk.
- I guess we are, I said shifting nervously in my seat, already nervy about this interaction.
- So I have the best idea, I love psychology! Why don't we research people's connections to each other? Like why could some people bond, and others not? What makes you attracted to certain people. You know, that kinda questions.
