Chapter 19 "I need to save Red"

Reds pov
It was a few days later, I was back home at the dorm from the hospital. Chloe barely ever left my side, you could notice she was worried sick. Even Flyfly spent the whole days laying beside me in bed.

If I wasn't so dizzy from the medication I would have guessed something was up with Chloe, she seemed more concerned than usual. She didn't want to let Rob in here last night, I hadn't met him since the day of the accident. But I didn't understand why. Why didn't she want me to se him?

But as I said, the medication was fucking me up, I couldn't analyze her behavior.

The fire had mostly affected my arms, I had burn marks all over them. But happily the doctor said they wouldn't last forever, the fire didn't go down far in my skin. But it still hurt like hell. So I was in bed rest for a few weeks, and Chloe was determined to take care of me.

In all dizziness I saw Chloe walking in and out of the kitchen a hundred times, nervously shaking her hands. What was she doing? I was too weak to speak up and ask.

- Red? Did you take your 12 medication? She asked, walking towards me.

I nodded.

- Good, she said, forcing a smile.

Something was definitely up... But I didn't know what it was.

THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT

CHLOE POV

- Rob? What the hell happened?

I looked down at Reds burned arms again, feeling tears escape my eyes.

- Uhm, she mixed the wrong ingredients, a- at- the chemistry class, Rob stuttered.

Why was he so nervous?

Suddenly the doctor came in, talking about Reds condition. After a while I saw Rob sneaking out, taking a phone call. What the hell was he up to?

It was the next day, I was called in to principal Uma, and the chemistry teacher to talk about Reds accident. Even the police was there, to know what really happened.

Reds mom had arrived in town, worried sick. At the moment she was the one watching Red at the hospital.

- So Chloe? Who do you think could be behind this? The police asked.
- Uhm? Behind it? I was told it was an accident, that she mixed up the ingredients and caused a fire, I said confused.

The chemistry teacher spoke up,
- No Chloe, I didn't give out any ingredients that could be dangerous, I never do. Nothing I have given out could have caused that explosion. He claimed.

My heart was racing, as the police turned to me.
- Chloe, do you know anyone named Rob?

I swallowed,
- Yes, yes I do. He's my girlfriend's best friend.
- Do you think he could have mixed up the ingredients before handing it to her? To set the fire? The police asked, giving me a dangerous look.

I looked around, finding my way to Umas eyes, that were very concerned.
I sighed,
- Yes, I think that's possible.

The police looked at principal Uma,
- I think we need to take Chloe down to the station for more questions, before we start asking Rob.

Uma nodded, and gently tapped on my shoulder.
- You got this, she said and walked away.

I got to ride with the two police officers down to the station, feeling my head spinning so much I almost puked. What really happened at yesterday's lab?
Do they really think Rob would try to kill Red? Did I think he tried to kill Red?

I sat alone in the backseat, hearing the officers talking the situation through. Suddenly my phone makes a noise, and I look down at the screen.

It's a blocked number saying,
"If you tell them anything, I'll kill Red, don't underestimate me bitch"

My hands started shaking, who was this? Was it Rob? Anastasia? I didn't know.

My brain told me to show the message to the officers, I was always told doing the right thing was the easiest way. But when it was my girlfriend's life at risk, I could take that chance.

The whole ride down to the station I felt my hands shaking, I looked at the message a thousand times, still not knowing what to do.

I ended up not telling the officers anything, just how Rob and Red got to know each other, or anything about Anastasia.

Would I regret that?

When the officers finally released me I took the next bus up to the hospital. I was greeted by Bridget, Reds mom.

She hugged me, and I felt her worry. I held her tight until I saw someone standing beside her, outside Reds room.

Did he recognize me?

Bridget release herself from my body, shyly taking a few steps back. Until she spoke up, introducing the person beside her.
- Uhm, so this is John Allander, he's-

He interrupted her,
- It's okay Bridget, Chloe and I know each other. He said, taking out his hand out of the pocket and shook my hand.

I didn't even have the time to response, my brain was so overstimulated. Why in hell did Bridget bring Anastasia's dad here? When she's probably the one behind her daughter's almost death?

I felt so dizzy, everything went in slow motion. I heard Bridget calling for help, when I fell down and my head hit the floor.

My last thought was, I need to save Red.
