I held Ira close, her little hands sticky with chocolate as she clung to me.

When I stepped into our room, there she was perched on the bed, once again absorbed in her phone.

A part of me wanted to pull her away from that screen, to remind her that there was a world beyond it, one that was right here, filled with little joys and messes.

Ira's grip tightened, and I smiled, sitting down on the chair across from Dhriti.

"Give her to me," Dhriti said, glancing up.

"She'll spoil your shirt."

I couldn't help but reply, "If she won't, then who will?"

Her eyes met mine, and I saw that familiar spark of playfulness.

She set her phone aside and walked over to me, standing close enough that I could feel her warmth.

"I never knew you were fond of chocolates,"
I said, trying to sound casual but failing miserably.

She tilted her head, narrowing her eyes at me.

"You know nothing about me," she replied, a challenge in her voice.

"Let's test that theory," I grinned and, without a second thought, grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto my lap.

She landed softly, startled, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.

On my left side was Ira, still engrossed in her chocolate, and on my right side was Dhriti, her presence warm and grounding.

She tried to stand, her instinct to flee taking over, but Ira intervened, her tiny voice commanding, "Mumma, sit!"

Dhriti paused, caught off guard, and I couldn't help but chuckle.

The three of us, entangled in this moment of simple joy it was more than I could have asked for.

She looked at me, her eyes softening, and for a brief moment, everything felt perfect.

She tried to stand again, her usual stubbornness kicking in, but I held her gently in place, determined to savor this moment just a little longer.

"What were you saying? That I know nothing about you?" I teased, my voice low, almost whispering.

She rolled her eyes, a gesture that was so distinctly her, and hummed in response, her lips curving into a smirk.
