As Summer climbed the spiral staircase following Erebus, her legs nearly failed her, each nerve aflame with searing pain. Erebus, ever watchful, steadied her while keeping a protective watch. The elder Grimm placed Summer right behind him, his sword drawn, cognizant that Salem would quickly learn of Summer's escape; indeed, she had eyes everywhere, and nothing eluded her watchful gaze.
The Elder Grimm made certain that Summer stayed close, encouraging her to keep moving forward even when she stopped. Time was critical, and this was Summer's only chance to escape. With Artemis and Wolf gone from the land of darkness, Salem was the remaining threat. Even with Erebus's deep-seated fear of the Grimm queen, he continued forward, as Summer was almost at the limit of her endurance.
Erebus: Summer we cannot wait around! Salem will know I've released you and it's only a matter of time before she tries to stop us!
Summer, dazed from her injuries, couldn't hear Erebus's words. She stumbled to one knee as fresh blood poured from her wounds. Erebus quickly assisted her to her feet and stood guard. For Summer, it took every ounce of willpower not to succumb to unconsciousness. Yet, the thought of reuniting with her family spurred her to stand and continue the fight.
Erebus permitted Summer a brief hold on his arm, giving her a chance to rest. Upon reaching the summit of the stairs, he cautiously unlocked the dungeon doors. Facing Summer, Erebus whispered with a voice heavy with deep sorrow.
Erebus: You must promise me Summer, promise me you'll survive and escape this hell and go back to your family, you must keep fighting.
Summer: I...don't know If I have the strength to keep going...I'm... so tired...
Erebus: That's not good enough! you must promise me you will be there for your family! that's you'll be there for your daughters and husband!....live your life...be there for those who truly care for you...
Summer was taken aback by the gruff speech of Erebus; she had not anticipated that a Grimm would be her savior. Yet, there she was, being escorted to safety by one of Salem's own personal attack Grimm.
Summer: I-I'll try to escape Erebus, you have my word...
Erebus: that is all I ask from you Rose, now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you have the perfect semblance for escaping this blasted place...
Summer was slightly unsettled by Erebus's awareness of her semblance; indeed, her ability did allow her to teleport to remembered locations, but it demanded considerable stamina and energy.
Summer: I guess, My semblance allows me to teleport to some places from memory, what about you? how the hell are you going to escape from this place.
Erebus however stayed silent for a moment, he had no intentions of escaping, he was going to die and he had accepted that truth.
Erebus: I cannot escape this place Rose, this is my final resting place.
Summer: W-WHA! what do you mean you cannot escape?! surely there must be a way!
Erebus: it wouldn't matter if I escaped Summer, I have no place in the world, no allies, no home, I'm not afraid of my death, in fact I welcome it, you however have reasons to keep fighting, you have friends, family and a reason to fight...I accept my fate...
Summer began to feel nauseous, perceiving that her savior had surrendered to a grim fate. Gazing into his golden eyes, she found only sorrow and a haunting emptiness. She longed to be more powerful; theoretically, her semblance might extend to another, but considering her current weakened state, it would be miraculous if it proved effective even for herself.
