Hurled into danger at breakneck speeds

Erebus's eyes opened slowly as he lifted himself from the dormitory floor. As he cracked his neck and clenched his fists, he was acutely aware that today was the day of initiation. It was a time for students to prove their mettle in the perilous Emerald Forest. Yet, Erebus harboured concerns; he knew Salem would not remain idle. She was likely to dispatch Artemis or Wolf to disrupt the proceedings. The thought alone sent a chill down Erebus's spine. Both were formidable former allies; he had only defeated Artemis previously because she was weakened, a condition he knew wouldn't last. She, like Wolf, would have been training to augment her strength.

Yet a small part of Erebus hoped at least one of them would join him...

Even with Summer's family's support and Ozma's offer of societal integration, Erebus knew he would never be fully accepted. As a Grimm with a long and violent history, he understood that in another life, he might have been born human or Faunus. But in this existence, his destiny was different; he was destined to be viewed as a monster, an outcast, an entity incapable of change.

Erebus reluctantly acknowledged the benefits of working for Salem; though they were scarce, they explained his prolonged allegiance. He shared a strong camaraderie with Wolf, the seasoned Grimm who had once trained him and been a friend. Now, as circumstances changed, Erebus pondered whether Wolf could break free from Salem's grasp as he had. However, Erebus was certain it was impossible; Wolf was too captivated by Salem to ever consider betrayal.

Erebus was well aware that Wolf was deeply enamoured with the grim queen, almost viewing her as the rightful sovereign of Remnant. Erebus, on the other hand, never perceived Salem as a ruler but rather as someone afflicted by circumstance and destiny. Indeed, she had endured suffering, the loss of children, and to some extent, her own life. However, this did not alter the reality that Salem was responsible for countless deaths; she was a monster, and that fact would not change swiftly.

A knock at the dorm room door made Erebus flinch. He sighed, walked over, and opened the door with a firm motion. Looking down, he saw an old man whose eyes were hidden beneath massive eyebrows. A magnificent mustache adorned the area below his nose, unlike any Erebus had ever seen. The man was clad in a light maroon suit...

Porter: Hello there my Grimm friend! Professor Ozpin sent me here to show you the way to the cliffside!

Erebus: You needn't, I already know the way and I'm heading out now, I assume the students have all prepared?

Porter: Well the ones who aren't late are anyways...

Erebus: Ah, I see, some people are as hard to raise as the dead, you humans with all you're sleeping, I can't grasp the concept of it, although I am a grimm so there's much I don't know

Porter laughed in a hearty manner while holding his sides, wiping a tear from his eye as he slowly calmed down.

Porter: It's good to finally see a grimm like yourself within this fine halls!

Erebus: Well I like to think I'm one of a kind, that's neither here nor there, we should hurry as I doubt Ozpin will want to wait long for me.

Porter offered a faint smile before moving aside. As Erebus exited the room, he was greeted by dazzling sunlight. The splendid rays streamed through the adjacent windows, bathing the corridors in a wondrous glow that highlighted the splendour of Beacon. For a fleeting moment, the Grimm felt a surge of happiness before he continued on his way, leaving Porter behind.

Porter: Another word grimm! I would like to ask you a few questions if you wouldn't mind?

Erebus groaned for a second, no doubt annoying Porter, yet he turned around and leaned on the nearby wall.
