After his conversation with Ozpin, Erebus retreated to his room for the night. The grim knight felt a surge of energy and power coursing through his body; every nerve and muscle seemed to be gathering strength. As he walked down the deserted halls of Beacon, Erebus flexed his fingers and observed bright white flames dancing around them, feeling hotter than ever before. Experimenting with his newfound gravity ability, he watched the gravity around him warp and change, the prospect of using this power in future battles filled him with excitement, confident in its utility amidst the fires of war.
Upon entering his dorm, Erebus let out a sigh and carelessly tossed his sword to the ground. He then knelt and sat back on his legs, entering a meditative state to soothe his mind and soul.
With his bright golden eyes closed, Erebus experienced a sensation of lightness enveloping his body as he drifted into a sleep-like state, his thoughts decelerating and his body temperature dropping.
That WAS before he heard an all too familiar voice...
YOU'VE DONE WELL EREBUS.
Erebus tensed for a moment but relaxed as his room was suddenly bathed in light, revealing the very individual who had saved his life.
Brother of Light: You are truly and interesting one Erebus, you still tried to save Wolf, despite what he has done.
Erebus thought for a moment, it was true, he wanted to save Wolf, yet it had become clear as day the old grimm wouldn't listen.
Erebus: I wanted to save an old friend who was on the wrong path, it hardly matters now however, Wolf is dead, and no doubt Salem will think of ways to kill me, she'll probably use Artemis, thing is, I have no issues with killing Artemis.
The brother of light kneeled down to Erebus's level, staring into his golden eyes.
Brother of light: And to think you once thought yourself unworthy, look at you now, a warrior and a teacher.
Erebus: I have you to thank for that my lord, I owe my life to you.
Erebus rose, lazily stretching his arms before his gaze met that of the deity standing before him.
Erebus: While I am glad you decided to contact me again, I assume this isn't a social visit?
The brother merely chuckled, it was nice to talk with someone as sharp as Erebus...
Brother of light: Your smart Erebus, no, I come with the news that Salem is now aware of Wolf's demise, she is already planning for a way for Artemis to grow stronger, no doubt that witch plans to capture you and most likely try to replicate your new powers.
Erebus hummed softly, aware that Salem would soon discover Wolf's presence, complicating matters. Salem's knowledge of his strength posed a new threat; if she managed to reverse-engineer his powers and grant them to her Grimm, it wouldn't be long before Remnant was overrun and humanity's forces were overwhelmed by the Grimm.
Erebus: I will not let that happen, I will not fall, not like this.
Brother of light: That's good to hear Erebus, yet there is something else I wish to tell you about...your eyes...their purpose is important...
Erebus's interest was piqued; after years of having golden eyes, he had nearly concluded they were a trait of his soul. Now, realizing they served a purpose, his curiosity was ignited.
Brother of light: Their power, darker than silver, is a fusion of mine and my brother's. It possesses the capacity to amplify strength to unimaginable heights and may even transform into something more formidable, provided it has time to mature.
Erebus remained silent for a moment, and it became clear why he had become so powerful; he held a fragment of the brothers' power. Everything fell into place, yet one small question lingered: why? Why would the brothers place such trust in him?
Brother of light: This power was given you for a reason Erebus, while this power is hard to draw out, it will arrive, I believe there is no being on Remnant more worthy of such power.
Erebus; I see...then I'll be sure to use it for the good of all, you say this power can increase one's power? is there a limit for such strength?
Brother of light: No, I bestowed this power upon you to combat Salem; it would be imprudent to constrain your potential. Your strength will continue to increase.
Erebus let the brother's words sink in, having power that could overpower Salem and her grimm would surely be useful...
Erebus: I will grow stronger, I promise you that...
Brother of light: All I ask of you, Erebus, is to grow strong, heal your wounds, and protect the world I cherish. One day, my brother and I will come back; you will serve as our herald, an emissary in our stead.
Erebus stayed silent for a moment as the brother rested a hand upon his shoulder.
Brother of light: I will leave you now so you can rest, now you know your purpose...
The brother of light gradually began to dim, and eventually, he disappeared into nothingness, leaving Erebus alone in his dormitory, overwhelmed with more questions than answers. He let out a sigh and lowered himself to the floor with a heavy thud...
Erebus: I'll kill them all...I promise you that...
