Erebus was swiftly encircled by a host of Grimm, ranging from Ursi to Beowulf's. Creatures of darkness closed in from every direction. With haste, he summoned his sword to his right hand and adopted a defensive posture, blade at the ready, body slightly bent. The air warmed as Erebus conjured flames. Then, in a fleeting moment, his aura shimmered. A weak smile crossed his face as he lunged at the nearest Beowulf, striking it with such force that the Grimm recoiled and perished instantly.

The other Grimm didn't hesitate; two Beowulfs emerged from the foliage behind Erebus just as an Ursa charged from the front. However, Erebus had anticipated the attack; his heightened senses were more than sufficient to detect the Grimm behind him.

Dodging the incoming strikes, Erebus twirled his sword in a wide arc, slicing through the Beowulf effortlessly. The Ursa, however, did not fall as expected; its razor-sharp teeth clamped onto Erebus's arm, eliciting a grunt of pain from the elder Grimm. Yet, this was not enough to deter him. Mustering all his strength, Erebus cleaved his sword through the Ursa. As the creature's grip loosened, blackened Grimm dust seeped from his arm, and his aura swiftly healed the injury.

Erebus swiftly evaded the incoming assault. A Beowulf had crept up on him, but it was far too slow to counter Erebus's punch. The force of the blow caved in the Beowulf's skull, instantly killing it and affording Erebus a brief moment of respite.

Yet he quickly went on the offensive again when another group of Beowulf's emerged from the nearby foliage.

Assuming a stance with his sword and stretching his limbs, Erebus began to tremble violently. Embers flickered over his form, and his blade was consumed by bright red flames. The Beowulf's, however, showed no mercy. All three charged at full speed towards Umbra. The elder Grimm would have found it amusing; he swiftly rotated his sword horizontally, creating the illusion of a swirling wave of death.

The Beowulf's never stood a chance...

They fell with such speed and force that death was almost instantaneous. Erebus's blade, now coated in Grimm dust, was swiftly cleaned with his free hand. After taking a deep breath, he reached out with his senses for any nearby Grimm and, finding none, he was relieved to be truly alone. With a gust of flames, he made his sword disappear and turned north, breaking into a swift sprint, hoping to find some of the students before they encountered the Grimm...

Halting abruptly, Erebus honed his senses, utilizing his innate ability to perceive emotions. To his dismay, he detected the tumult of battle ahead. Hastening towards the fray, he nimbly evaded a Beowulf that hurtled towards him. Surveying the scene, he noticed Ruby and Weiss Schnee encircled by Grimm, seemingly on the verge of being overrun.

Yet they stood their ground...

Erebus wasted no time joining the battle, swiftly dispatching several Grimm before moving towards Ruby. He sensed her anxiety dissipate upon his arrival; however, this distraction caused her to lose focus on the imminent danger. As Umbra had anticipated, a Beowulf seized the opportunity and attempted to strike at Ruby.

Erebus: RUBY!

Erebus charged forward and struck the Grimm squarely in the chest, his hand piercing cleanly through it. Yet, he was not finished; summoning his sword into his grasp, he commenced battle.

Ruby: E-EREBUS! LOOK OUT!

Erebus spun around just in time to confront an Ursa charging at him. The Grimm's force knocked him off balance, but the Ursa had gravely miscalculated Erebus' might. The elder Grimm retaliated with a whirlwind of slashes, shredding the ground and surrounding Grimm into tatters.

Ruby, Weiss and Erebus quickly all went back to back, their hands tightening on their weapons as more and more grimm emerged.

Erebus: I guess they won't let us go without a fight...dammit...we don't have time for this... we need to get moving before they overwhelm us.
