Forever fall forest

Erebus was summoned to Ozpin's office early in the morning. As the legendary Grimm knight, he was more than ready to assist the ancient immortal. Ozma had earned his trust, especially since Erebus had served alongside Salem for over a century. He understood Ozma's curses and the burdensome deeds he was compelled to perform, which alone merited Erebus's respect. Furthermore, Ozpin was among the rare few who were willing to offer Erebus an opportunity.

As Erebus ascended in the elevator to Ozpin's office, he fiddled with his thumbs, uncertain of the old immortal's intentions. With Ozpin, the matter could be significant or utterly trivial; it was always a gamble. Erebus was not typically dispatched for fieldwork unless it held long-term importance. Nevertheless, he was prepared to offer assistance wherever necessary—it was the proper thing to do.

As Erebus stepped out of the elevator and into Ozpin's office, the old grimm let out a slight chuckle upon seeing Ozpin take a hearty gulp of his coffee. He then walked over to the desk and knelt beside the chair.

Erebus: It's good to see you again Ozma, I pray for you.

Ozpin: I'm afraid prayer wouldn't do much to ease anyone's burdens, although I must admit, it is nice to see you too Erebus.

Erebus: What's be going on with you? you wouldn't bother me unless it was important, your smarter than most in that regard.

Ozpin remained quiet for a moment, then swivelled his chair toward the window behind him, looking down at the teachers and students below.

Ozpin: I am asking you to assist Glynda today, she and teams JNPR, CRDL RWBY are heading into the forever fall forest, Your job is to keep everyone safe should things get hairy.

Erebus: If you're worrying about Artemis, fear not, she wouldn't be stupid enough to try anything, no, she is more than willing to wait for the right moment to strike, besides, I'd win...

Ozpin: it's good to know your confidence is high Erebus, I hope it's not all bravado however, if you die, we will have just lost the only person who could take on Artemis...

Erebus: You have that little faith in me Ozma?

Ozpin: No, I trust that you're strong enough to defeat Artemis, but that's neither here not there, Glynda and the students will be heading to the forever forest, you will work alongside Glynda in order to make sure everyone stays safe.

Erebus: You have my word no one will be hurt on my watch.

Ozpin: it's good to hear that old friend, now go, you have work to do...

Erebus: (chuckles) Like always Ozma...

Erebus rose from the floor, stretching his arms until they cracked, then made his way to the elevator. The ancient Grimm squeezed into the lift, which was too small for his frame, and pressed the button for the ground floor. As the elevator descended, he hummed a melody, his mind buzzing with thoughts. Artemis wouldn't be waiting to confront him; she might attempt something else...

Perhaps he was overthinking again. If that was the case, he would need to soothe his frayed nerves and prepare for what was to come.
