Nine years had passed since Erebus was resurrected and welcomed into the Rose family. Initially met with scepticism, he quickly dispelled any doubts by becoming a valuable ally and friend. During his stay at the Rose family residence, Erebus took the initiative to confront the nearby Grimm, making the entire forest safer. After several days of relentless hunting, Erebus had nearly eradicated the Grimm from the neighbouring forests. Regardless of the adversary, be it Beowulf's or Deathstalkers, Erebus vanquished them all, bolstering his strength through his newfound absorption ability. Now more formidable than ever, he should be prepared to confront Artemis at last.
Tai remained undecided about Erebus, but his scepticism faded when he witnessed Erebus's usefulness. The local Grimm were so intimidated they wouldn't dare approach, a fact that pleased Tai. He recognized the necessity of trusting Erebus, despite the difficulty in accepting it, acknowledging that Erebus had indeed changed for the better.
And to everyone's shock and surprise, Ozpin had reached out to Erebus...
Although the initial discussions between Ozma and Erebus were tense and hostile, it wasn't long before they reached a state of civility and calm. Despite this, trust was absent; Erebus harboured resentment for knowing Ozma's secrets, while Ozpin remained sceptical, unconvinced of Erebus's change and still viewing him as a servant of Salem.
Erebus was aware that he was not much better than Ozma; he too was a keeper of secrets, with his own hands stained by the blood of many. While Ozma might have commanded soldiers for centuries, sending countless to their demise, Erebus had personally taken many lives, to the extent that he could almost envision his hands soaked in blood.
Erebus resolved that if he was to truly gain Ozpin's favour, he would need to provide the ageless immortal with something substantial. Thus, the ancient Grimm knight divulged every shred of information he possessed about Salem and his erstwhile Grimm compatriots, ranging from the vital details to the seemingly trivial. In exchange for this trove of intelligence, Erebus was granted a single opportunity to demonstrate his allegiance to humanity—a task he was determined not to fail.
As the future approached, Erebus resolved to fortify himself both physically and mentally. With his grimm physique, he underwent subtle evolutions to enhance his deadliness. In time, he became leaner and more muscular, yet his speed remained unimpaired. His skills as a swordsman became more polished and seamless. No longer a brute who depended solely on strength, he now battled with the elegance of a swordsman seasoned by over a hundred years of combat.
To his surprise, Summer expressed a desire to train alongside Erebus. Although he surpassed Summer in most categories, he welcomed her assistance. Despite the fact that Erebus couldn't make significant progress, as he had to restrain himself during their sparring sessions, he found enjoyment in the practice. He presumed it was preparation for the possibility that Wolf and Artemis might emerge, and he wouldn't be there to protect the family. While Summer couldn't confront those grim alone, training was still beneficial.
Positioned just outside Summer's residence, Erebus gazed into the distance, his eyes glazed as he pondered the future. In another existence, he might have continued to serve Salem, reduced to nothing but a mindless minion. Yet, despite being a target of the grim queen, Erebus found contentment in the way things had unfolded. He was now aligned with the right side of history, with the power to create rather than obliterate—a refreshing shift for the fabled Grimm.
Hearing the front door of the cabin open, Erebus turned to see Summer approaching, a large scythe in her left hand which she held with the utmost care.
Summer: I hope your ready for our little spar Erebus!
