Erebus lay crumpled on the ground, his body broken. His battle with Wolf had ended in defeat. For a moment, all he felt was shame; Ruby would be captured, and the students would perish—all because he hadn't been strong enough. The grimm knight attempted to rise, but every fiber of his being screamed in agony, sending him tumbling down once more, leaving him gazing helplessly up at the sky.
Erebus: I'm sorry everyone...I failed...
Erebus reflected on the years gone by, the warmth of acceptance into Summer's family, the pride when Ruby decided to become a huntress, the numerous duels with Yang, and imparting all his knowledge to them. Now, it seemed all that effort was in vain. The urge to weep was there, but he restrained himself. Gazing at his absent arm, Erebus was filled with self-loathing. How could he have been so foolish? He knew deep down that defeating Wolf was an impossible feat; the elder Grimm was simply too strong, too formidable. He was no hero; he was the epitome of defeat and a loser.
Erebus's fury escalated to a boiling rage, momentarily feeling beyond control as he tried once more to rise. This time, he succeeded in standing, albeit supported by a nearby tree. Gazing at his solitary arm, he gripped his fist so firmly that grimm dust began to trickle out.
Why was he so useless!?
Why was he so weak!?
Erebus's flames started to return as the grimm felt a surge of power coursing through him, he couldn't even think as rage took over his signs, his aura started to flare up and appear to be on fire, Erebus however continued to lose himself, his rage was on another level as he released a bellowing roar into the skies...
At that moment, Erebus's psyche began to splinter and shatter under the weight of overwhelming emotions. His mask parted to unveil his razor-sharp teeth, and the shawl draped over his shoulders appeared to animate and defy gravity. He bent forward, assuming a monstrous posture as his healing factor and aura commenced the restoration of his body.
falling to the ground as his body was consumed by flames, Erebus's soon became little more than a rabid beast as he charged in the direction of the students...

Wolf: Give it up you fools! Erebus won't arrive in time to save you!
Every breath was heavy as they battled Wolf; even with numerical advantage, Wolf proved too formidable for them. The elder Grimm surpassed them in every aspect, rendering the situation increasingly dire as each one struggled to stay on their feet.
Wolf: I am not playing your games anymore! Summer's child will come with me and the rest of you shall die, you can struggle all you want!
Wolf was poised to attack when suddenly, everyone froze at the sound of Erebus's thunderous roar. Wolf glanced back in astonishment—Erebus still had the strength to fight? This was an unexpected turn; the rabble in front of him posed little threat, but Erebus? He was a formidable and much more powerful adversary...
Wolf: HA HA! It appears your protector still has some steam left!
At the sudden, loud sound resembling an explosion, everyone leaped to their feet. Gazing into the distance, they observed a colossal sphere of fire ascending into the sky.

Now consumed by bloodlust, Erebus surged through the forest with such velocity that Ruby appeared sluggish in comparison. Dust billowed from his mouth, and his fingertips had honed into dagger-like points. Clutched in his right hand was his sword, which now resembled a molten slab of iron. Yet, the blade began to twist and expand in his grip, morphing subconsciously into a new form as Erebus wielded it.
