Once more, Erebus found himself in the familiar forest where he had encountered the brother of light. His body had disintegrated to dust, and he had perished yet again, sacrificing his life for one who truly merited survival. Even though he knew he had not succeeded in defeating Salem or saving Remnant, he had instilled hope in the common people. With Artemis and Wolf no longer present, and Salem repelled, Erebus, now no more than a wisp of smoke, let out a mental chuckle as he drifted through the trees.

As Erebus floated through the forest, he found himself bewitched by the beaty of the forest, everything looked more alive than ever before and the wildlife trotted around without a care in the world, a few fawns walked right up to Erebus and tilted their heads at him, prompting the old grimm to chuckle once more, lowering his wispy body to the ground, Erebus took a breath of fresh air and prepared himself.

Brother of light: once again a grimm surprises me, I shouldn't be surprised it would be you Erebus...

Erebus gazed upward at the brother of light, who loomed above with arms crossed and a body glowing with a wondrous golden light. Erebus had anticipated another encounter with the brother of light, yet he was uncertain of what to say. His mission to halt Salem had failed; he had only managed to delay her progress, granting Ozma and the others a few more years of peace. Beyond that, his only success was the demise of Artemis and Wolf.

Brother of light: I assume you think you failed in your mission?

Erebus: indeed, I only defeated Artemis and wolf, I may have staved off Salem's influence for a few years, but she will return, with new warriors by her side...

The brother of light stooped to Erebus's level, and with a snap of his fingers, restored Erebus's body to the unblemished state it was in during his battle with Artemis. Glancing at his hands, Erebus observed bright blue flames flickering over his fingertips. Clenching his fists, he turned to confront the deity who had already sacrificed greatly on his behalf.

Erebus: What happens next?

Brother of light: That depends on what you wish to do my champion...

Erebus: Excuse me?

Brother of light: You still have a place in the world of Remnant Erebus, you have mortals who wish for you to return, some grieve for you and don't want to believe you have fallen...

The brother of light momentarily turned from Erebus, then raised his hands to project images of Remnant. Erebus, driven by curiosity, rose and approached the brother's side.

He observed Remnant in his absence: the students and staff of Beacon Academy mourned him, and a funeral was held in his honour. Through the projection, Erebus saw Ruby, Summer, and Yang gathered around his coffin, their eyes brimming with tears and their hands trembling.

Brother of light: they mourn you, the world for them seems darker in your absence...

Erebus: They will get over it, the people of Remnant are strong, stronger than they know, I will be forgotten in time, I don't want to be remembered, I want to rest...

Erebus settled in the forest next to the Brother of Light. The divine entity sat beside Erebus briefly, letting out a soft chuckle. He turned towards Erebus, and although Erebus couldn't see his eyes, he sensed the ancient deity was lost in contemplation. With a heavy sigh, Erebus reclined in the forest's embrace.

Erebus: I am tired...

Brother of light: That is understandable, you have fought so hard, for everyone, you deserve that sought after rest...but...there is always another option...
