The atmosphere at Beacon was heavy with tension and sorrow. Unbeknownst to them that Erebus had been resurrected, the staff and students conducted a funeral in his honor. The grief was universal, yet it weighed heaviest on Summer, Ruby, and Yang. They had witnessed Erebus pinning down Artemis, allowing Summer to use her powers to vanquish both. Erebus had once more given his life for a cause greater than himself. Summer was visibly the most affected, tears coursing down her cheeks as Erebus's helmet was solemnly interred in the ground.
Why? why did he have to sacrifice himself again?!
Everyone stood at the main entrance of Beacon and held a vigil for the grimm who taught them so much, how someone can change and be better...
Ozpin locked eyes with Summer and walked over to her, gently placing his hand on her shoulder.
Ozpin: I'm...I'm sorry for your loss Summer.
Summer didn't want to speak; her dearest friend was gone, and it was by her own hand. Clenching her eyes shut, she shrugged off Ozpin's hand from her shoulder and walked over to Erebus's grave. Gazing into the shallow pit, more tears spilled from her eyes.
Summer: I-I-I'm sorry Erebus...it should have been me-
Suddenly, everyone's attention shifted from the grave of Erebus to the Emerald forest. With eyes wide open, they watched as the forest was consumed by flames. Jaws dropped, and some students even ran to get a closer look at the forest. Ozpin's jaw tightened ever so slightly; if this was the work of one of Salem's personal Grimm, then many lives would be lost. He gripped his cane tighter and tried to speak.
Another burst of flames engulfed the forest, and objects began to float into the sky. Summer and Ozpin saw this and felt their hearts skip a beat. There was only one Grimm capable of manipulating fire and gravity in such a way...
Erebus...
_____________
Erebus ripped through any obstacle as he approached the cliffside, determined to scale it and reunite with Ozma. Yet, with each attempt to climb, new Grimm arose, forcing him into battle again. It was of little consequence, though, for he had reached a newfound level of power, invincible to any foe. He laughed as the Grimm that dared approach were incinerated by his enhanced flames. Unstoppable, he stood at the pinnacle of strength.
As his anger and rage resurged, Erebus cut down another grimm, moving through the battlefield with delight. He absorbed dust and essence, flinging his sword in wide arcs. The sword appeared to defy physics, spinning through the air and striking down more grimm than seemed feasible, before returning to Erebus's grasp. To taunt the grimm he had vanquished, Erebus placed his sword mockingly on his shoulder and then erupted in divine fire.
Erebus finally bought enough time to begin his ascent of the cliffside. With his newly heightened senses, he could detect the murmur of students above. Now climbing at astonishing speeds, Erebus leaped, defying logic and physics by manipulating gravity to propel himself even higher. He was about halfway up when the sounds of Summer and Ozma's forces became audible...
Erebus: I'm almost there Summer...
Some students might have seen Erebus climbing and mistaken him for a random Grimm. Everyone readied themselves for battle, but before they could strike, Erebus executed a leap so powerful that he soared over everyone and landed in the dirt close by. All waited with bated breath as Erebus rose from the crater he had created, standing tall and towering over everyone.
Everyone didn't approach Erebus as his form had shifted by the hands of the brother of light, to them, this was another grimm they didn't recognise, Summer and Ozma approached Erebus with their weapons at the ready, Erebus turned to face them, a small smile hidden behind his mask...
