Taehyung was on his way to class, his mind drifting aimlessly, when he turned a corner and saw a sight that made him stop in his tracks.
There, near the side of the hallway, was Jungkook, pressed up against the wall, making out with a girl Taehyung didn't recognize. His brow furrowed, and a feeling of disgust washed over him.
Jungkook, with his hands all over her, looked like the definition of a careless playboy—his reputation living up to every rumor.
Taehyung clenched his jaw, feeling something else too. A slight, unexpected bitterness stirred in his chest, but he quickly pushed that thought aside.
It's none of my business, he reminded himself. With a final disgusted glance, he walked away, heading straight for his class.
As he entered the classroom, he spotted Jimin already seated at their usual spot. Jimin looked up with a bright smile as Taehyung took his seat beside him.
"Hey, Tae," Jimin greeted cheerfully.
“Hey,” Taehyung replied, still shaking off the memory of what he had just seen.
Jimin seemed a bit shy, his cheeks slightly flushed as he leaned in a little closer to Taehyung.
“By the way, I won’t be working at the café today,” he said, almost as if he was sharing a secret.
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Why not?”
Jimin hesitated for a second before grinning. “I have a date… with Yoongi.”
Taehyung’s eyes widened in playful shock. “No way. Yoongi actually asked you out?”
He laughed softly, leaning back in his chair. “I still can’t believe Min Yoongi—the Yoongi—would ask someone out.”
Jimin chuckled, his ears turning a shade pinker. “I know, right? It’s still kind of surreal.”
Taehyung crossed his arms, teasing him. “I guess the cold, silent guy really has a soft spot for our Jiminie, huh?”
“Stop,” Jimin whined, nudging Taehyung playfully. “You have no idea how nervous I am.”
“You’ll be fine,” Taehyung said with a grin. “Just don’t forget to tell me all the details afterward. I want to know everything.”
Jimin nodded, his excitement bubbling over. “I promise! But hey, you’ll be heading home alone, right? Be careful, okay?”
Taehyung waved his concern off. “Don’t worry about me. I can manage. You just focus on your date and have fun.”
“Thanks, Tae,” Jimin said, his eyes glowing with gratitude. “I’m really lucky to have you.”
Taehyung smiled warmly at his friend, but before they could continue, the teacher walked in, and the class quickly settled down.
As the lesson began, Taehyung’s mind drifted back to the scene of Jungkook, and despite his best efforts, the bitterness he felt earlier lingered faintly at the edge of his thoughts.
______
Taehyung was behind the counter of the café, absentmindedly wiping it down, his eyes occasionally drifting toward the door.
It wasn’t that busy today, but the work still felt tiring without Jimin around to keep him company.
He missed their usual banter, but a part of him was happy for his friend, knowing Jimin was probably having the time of his life on his date with Yoongi.
His shift was finally over, and as he untied his apron, he sighed in relief.
He was about to head out when, through the glass door, he noticed someone sitting on a sleek, black motorcycle parked just outside.
The figure waved at him, and Taehyung squinted for a moment before realizing it was Jungkook, sitting there, looking effortlessly handsome with his helmet in one hand.
Taehyung’s heart skipped a beat, but he quickly smothered it, reminding himself not to give Jungkook the satisfaction of knowing how good he looked.
Yeah, he’s hot, but his ego’s already big enough, he thought to himself as he stepped outside.
“What are you doing here?” Taehyung asked, crossing his arms, trying to sound as indifferent as possible.
Jungkook flashed him that signature smirk. “Well, since Jimin and Yoongi are on their little date, I got bored and thought of hanging out with you.”
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “You? Bored? And you thought of me? That doesn’t sound like you, Jeon.”
Jungkook chuckled, but didn’t elaborate, keeping his real reason to himself.
In truth, he’d overheard Jimin mentioning that Taehyung would be walking home alone tonight, and something about that just didn’t sit well with him. But there was no way he was going to admit that to Taehyung.
Instead, he patted the seat of his motorcycle. “Come on, I’ll drop you off. You don’t have to walk.”
Taehyung blinked at him in disbelief. “You think I’m getting on that thing with you? No thanks.”
“Oh, come on, princess. What’s the worst that could happen?” Jungkook teased, winking at him as he leaned forward, swinging his helmet casually. “Unless you’re scared.”
Taehyung scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Scared? Of you? Not a chance.” He paused, still unsure, then finally sighed, knowing that arguing with Jungkook would just be a waste of energy.
“Fine. But I’m not touching you,” he added, stepping forward and swinging his leg over the bike, carefully positioning himself so that there was as much space as possible between them.
Jungkook’s smirk widened as he handed Taehyung the spare helmet. “Whatever you say, sweetheart.”
Taehyung ignored the nickname, slipping the helmet on and tightening the strap. Jungkook revved the engine, and they took off, speeding down the road as the cool night air rushed past them.
As they rode through the city, Taehyung couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of calm.
They weren’t bickering like usual. Instead, the ride felt oddly peaceful. Jungkook glanced back for a second, noticing how quiet Taehyung was.
“Comfortable back there, Kim?” Jungkook called over the sound of the wind.
Taehyung rolled his eyes under the helmet, but there was no real bite to his words. “Just focus on the road, Jeon.”
Jungkook grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief as they weaved through the streets. “You know, we should hang out more often. You’re a lot more fun when you’re not all grumpy and cold.”
Taehyung huffed. “Don’t get used to it. This doesn’t mean I like you even a bit.”
Jungkook laughed. “Sure, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night, princess.”
They continued to talk, their usual sharp banter softened into something lighter.
They discussed random things—Taehyung's classes, Jungkook's reckless plans for the weekend, music.
And though Taehyung would never admit it out loud, it felt… nice. A lot nicer than he’d expected.
By the time they reached Taehyung’s apartment, he almost didn’t want to get off the bike. He quickly shook off the thought, stepping off carefully and handing Jungkook the helmet.
“Thanks for the ride,” Taehyung said, still maintaining his cold exterior, but his tone was softer than usual.
Jungkook gave him a mock salute. “Anytime, sweetheart.”
Taehyung shot him a look, though this time there was a faint smile playing on his lips. “Goodnight, Jeon.”
“Goodnight, Kim,” Jungkook replied with a smirk, watching as Taehyung walked up the steps to his apartment.
Just before disappearing inside, Taehyung looked back one last time, meeting Jungkook's gaze for a moment before he turned away, leaving Jungkook sitting there, feeling something he couldn't quite place.
