"Tae... He’s…Jungkook. My Jungkook."
Taehyung’s eyes widened, his world tipping sideways as the weight of her words sank in. "Your Jungkook?" His voice barely rose above a whisper, his own shock flooding him.
Taehyung stood frozen in the middle, his eyes darting between his sister and Jungkook. It was like someone had pulled the rug out from under him. He couldn’t piece together what was happening, but he knew it was big.
Jungkook stood frozen in the doorway, his eyes wide with disbelief, his heart pounding so hard he thought it might break through his chest.
The girl he had loved so fiercely, the one he had mourned all these years, the one he thought had died…was standing right in front of him. Alive.
His voice came out as a shaky whisper, barely audible. "You’re… Alive?"
It wasn’t even a question—it was like he was trying to convince himself, trying to make sense of the impossible.
His mind was racing, grasping for any kind of understanding, but it was like the ground had disappeared beneath him. Everything he thought he knew had just shattered in front of his eyes.
Jungkook’s voice came out, choked and strained. "You’re…Tessa?" He shook his head slowly, the weight of what he was realizing settling deep in his bones. "How…?"
Tessa opened her mouth to say something, to explain, but no words came out. How could she explain everything?
"Irene was… you?" Jungkook whispered, the old name he had used for Tessa falling from his lips like a long-buried secret. His face crumpled as emotions swirled inside him. "All this time…"
Tessa’s lips trembled, tears finally escaping her eyes as she nodded. "Yes… I’m Tessa, Kook." Her voice broke. "I’m sorry... I--."
Tessa looked devastated, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak. She could see the disbelief and hurt in Jungkook’s eyes, and it was tearing her apart.
Taehyung, who had been silently watching this unravel, felt a growing sense of confusion and dread.
His mind was spinning as he looked between his sister and Jungkook, trying to make sense of it.
How did Jungkook and Tessa know each other?
And why was he calling her Irene?
None of this was adding up.
Jungkook’s eyes were still fixed on Tessa, his mind running through every memory they had shared, every moment he had spent thinking she was gone.
"You were supposed to be dead…" he whispered, the words feeling foreign on his tongue.
"No... you died… You fucking died," he repeated, his voice growing louder, more broken.
"People attended your funeral… How? How are you standing here?" His voice cracked, the pain of those years flooding back all at once, disbelief and anger mixing with the raw ache in his chest.
The tension was unbearable, and Taehyung finally broke the silence, unable to stand it any longer.
"Jungkook… come inside," he said, his voice quieter now but filled with confusion and concern.
His heart was pounding in his chest, each beat heavy with fear. He was fucking terrified of what he was about to hear.
His hands trembled slightly as he gestured for Jungkook to step in, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios.
The sight of Jungkook and Tessa staring at each other like that—it was too much.
He didn’t understand what was happening, but deep down, he knew whatever was coming next would shatter everything he thought he knew.
