As Taehyung approached the group, he tried to act casual, though he couldn’t help scanning the area for Jungkook.
When he reached the table, he noticed everyone deep in conversation.
“What are you guys talking about?” Taehyung asked, settling in next to Hoseok, trying not to let his curiosity about Jungkook’s absence show.
Yoongi glanced up with his usual calm demeanor. “We’re discussing Jungkook’s birthday. It’s in two days,” he said, his voice nonchalant but with a hint of amusement in his eyes.
Taehyung blinked in surprise. Jungkook’s birthday? He hadn’t even thought about it yet, but now his mind raced with thoughts of what he could get Jungkook.
It would have to be something special, something meaningful. He silently listened as the others continued their planning, though his thoughts kept drifting to ideas for a gift.
Before he could think any further, Jungkook appeared, casually sliding into the seat next to Taehyung, his presence felt immediately.
His hand brushed briefly against Taehyung’s as he settled down, and Taehyung's heart leaped at the brief contact.
“Hey, what're you guys talking about?” Jungkook asked simply, his usual confident tone catching everyone's attention.
The conversation at the table shifted instantly, no one continuing the topic about his birthday.
Jungkook acted as if he hadn’t noticed, his eyes flickering briefly to Taehyung, who sat quietly beside him, thoughts still swirling in his mind.
Hoseok broke the tension with a grin. “So, we were just talking about… uh… exams!” he said, smoothly steering the conversation away from the birthday talk.
“Can’t believe they’re piling all this stuff on us already.”
Namjoon nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I’ve been swamped with assignments. It’s brutal.”
Yoongi added dryly, “We’re only a month in. Better get used to it.”
Jungkook’s eyes lingered on Taehyung for a moment, and though he didn’t say anything, Taehyung could feel the unspoken connection between them.
Despite the easy banter going on around the table, his thoughts kept circling back to Jungkook’s birthday, now just two days away. He needed to come up with the perfect idea.
As the group continued chatting, Jungkook rested his hand on the table close to Taehyung’s, their fingers brushing occasionally. Neither of them said anything, but the silent closeness was enough for now.

It was around midnight, and Jungkook was lying in bed, his body exhausted but his mind drifting. Just as he was about to fall asleep, his phone buzzed on the nightstand.
Groggily, he picked it up and answered, wondering who could be calling this late.
“Hello?” Jungkook’s voice was low and slightly raspy from being half-asleep.
“Jungkook, it’s me, Jimin,” came the voice from the other end.
“I’m outside Taehyung’s apartment, and he’s not opening the door. Could you come and check? I’m worried.”
Instantly, Jungkook shot up in bed, the drowsiness disappearing. “What? Is he okay?.... I’ll be right there. Wait for me.”
He didn’t waste a second, grabbing his jacket and keys, rushing out of his apartment and driving over to Taehyung's place.
