Taehyung's heart pounded in his chest as he noticed his apartment door slightly ajar.
His breath hitched. Panic surged through him like a tidal wave. A thief? A stalker? Worse-a murderer? His thoughts spiraled into terrifying scenarios as he inched closer to the door.
He hesitated at the threshold, sucking in a shaky breath before forcing himself to step inside.
Suddenly, the silence was shattered by a loud, all-too-familiar voice.
"Surprise!!"
Taehyung's entire body jolted. His eyes widened, and for a moment, it felt like his lungs forgot how to work.
"T-Tessa?" he whispered, disbelief coating his voice.
There, standing in the middle of his living room with a grin that could outshine the sun, was his sister. Tessa.
His heart stuttered. The world seemed to freeze, and for a split second, nothing existed but her.
"Tessa," he breathed, his voice thick with emotion, rushing forward before he could even think.
His arms wrapped around her in a tight embrace, holding her like she might disappear if he let go. "You're here... You're really here."
She giggled, her familiar warmth pressing into him. "Yes, Tae bear, I'm really here!" Her voice cracked slightly, betraying the emotion she felt too as she hugged him back with equal force.
"I missed you," Taehyung muttered, his face buried in her shoulder, the familiar scent of home filling his senses.
His eyes shut tightly, trying to absorb every moment, every second of this reunion. He hadn't seen his sister in almost three long years, and now she was standing right in front of him like a dream.
"I missed you too, so much." Her voice wavered with emotion, and they stayed like that for a long moment, just soaking in the comfort of each other's presence.
Finally, they pulled apart, both laughing softly at their dramatic reunion.
Taehyung wiped at his eyes, still not believing it. He led her to the couch, his voice still tinged with shock.
"How... how did you even get in here?" He blinked, sitting beside her as if afraid she'd vanish.
Tessa smirked, throwing her arm around his shoulders. "Well, I went to eomma and appa first. Got a duplicate key from them, and boom-here I am to surprise your sorry ass."
He chuckled, something he hadn't done in what felt like weeks. "I seriously can't believe this. What are you doing here? I mean, I'm so happy, but don't you have classes or something back in the States?"
Tessa shrugged with a playful glint in her eyes. "Well, yeah. But I was missing my baby brother, and there's no way I'm letting you go through whatever you're going through alone. Plus, I don't have classes for a few days, so I thought, why not come and crash with you?"
Taehyung shook his head, smiling-actually smiling-for the first time in weeks. "You always know when I need you the most." He let out a deep sigh, leaning back on the couch. "It's been... really hard without you, Tess."
"I know," she said softly, her eyes filling with concern as she watched him. "I could tell something was wrong. That's why I'm here. You don't have to tell me everything, but I'm not leaving you to drown, Tae. We'll get through this."
Taehyung closed his eyes briefly, overwhelmed by the wave of relief that washed over him. "I needed you."
"I needed you too." Tessa smiled warmly, reaching out to ruffle his hair, just like when they were kids.
