My head was pounding.
Everything was dark.
The penetrating sterile odor hitting my nose.
Infirmary.
'Fuck sake,' I groaned, slowly opening my eyes as I took in my surroundings. The distant noises of the many devices was loud in the quiet room. It was still dark outside, I tried to figure out how long I had been out. Leto lowly purred in the back of my mind as if she tried to tell me she was completely content being back with me.
My body felt weak as I forced myself to sit up straight. I knew it was going to take me a few hours to regain my strength, especially since I didn't know how long I had been away from Kena. Although her scent lingered around the room everything in me craved for her.
The celestial barrier between wolf and human kept replaying in the back of my mind, those six wolves seemed familiar. Especially one of them. The brown wolves who kept making eye contact while the others played with the unfamiliar person. Yet somewhere, deep down I knew her.
My body leaned heavily against the walls as they supported me out of my room. Most of the wolves were sleeping soundly and I tried hard to not make any sound. I knew if one of the nurses on call would see me they would haul me back to bed.
'Why those this freaking house have so many hallways..' I whispered, getting slightly frustrated with the state I was in. By the time I reached our wing I was panting heavily. Mentally raising my middle finger to the gigantic hall.
I let myself slide down against the wall, knocking down a vase as I tried to catch my breath.
'This is utter bullshit.' I panted and Leto barked softly.
Dani her head snapped around her door, she seemed surprised to see me but worry took over as she saw me sitting on the floor. She quickly closed the door behind her as she walked over and kneeled down in front of me. 'What the hell are you doing up?' I whisper yelled as she helped me up to my feet.
'Well some idiot just knocked over a precious vase at 3am.' Dani smirked, pointing to the vase on the ground.
'Missed you too.'
Dani chuckled, 'I am glad you're awake, but aren't you supposed to be resting?'
I was glad I was able to lean on Dani as she walked me down the hallway, 'I am supposed to be seeing Kena,' I breathed heavily as the headache returned. Dani frowned, contemplating the right decision. 'Please.' I added.
She sighed, 'Fine..'
I frowned when I realized Dani wasn't leading me to Kena her bedroom but to the hallway of her office instead. It was in the middle of the night, she couldn't still be stuck in her office. 'What are we doing over here?'
'Kena has been in her office for the past week, we all have been pulling all-nighters. Besides the night watch shifts. We have been trying to find out why you passed out,' Dani answered. 'This was my free night.' She stuck out her tongue.
'I've been out for a week?'
Dani nodded her head yes, 'When you passed out, Kena lost touch of Alcione as well until yesterday when she suddenly reappeared.'
Kena her scent hit my nose and I couldn't help the whimper that escaped me. My body instantly reacting to the scent in front of me as I pictured her icy blue eyes. Within a second the door opened and Kena her tired eyes watched me before she rushed forward, pulling my against her. I sighed into her, letting the sparks fly through every fiber of my body. Kena her face was hot on my mark as she inhaled my scent, calming herself down.
She pulled away and rested her forehead against mine. 'I have missed you so much, little mate.' Tears evident in the corner of her eyes.
'Why didn't you link me?' She turned towards Dani who was casually leaning against the wall as she shrugged. 'I missed my little Luna as well.'
Kena frowned, but decided to let it go as she pulled me even closer to her body. As if I could suddenly disappear again. 'Wake the others and my brother. We need to discuss this.'
Dani groaned and I turned towards Kena, 'Your brother is here?'
'Yeah and Ivy, I needed the help.' Kena admitted, I knew she hated to ask for help. But we both knew that an Elder without a mate, let alone without her wolf would be an easy target.
I nodded, resting my head on her shoulder. 'Let them sleep alright, I want to sleep. With you. We can talk tomorrow.' I whispered softly.
Kena sighed, 'Alright..'
'Yes!' Dani exclaimed, 'I am glad your back little Luna.' She quickly hurried away. I couldn't help the smile forming itself and grabbed Kena her hand. 'Let's go to bed.'
Kena frowned, pulling me back into her as she kissed me passionately before picking me up. 'No way I am letting you walk little mate.' She purred softly, making my legs go jelly.
Kena walked us back to our room and carefully set me down as I hurried to dug into the covers. Inhaling her scent as I let it wrap itself around me. Everything around the celestial barrier had been peaceful, it made sense to me why wolves preferred to stay there after they lose their human. But this moment right here, back with my mate couldn't top anything. Kena wrapped her arms around me, her voice tired as she spoke, 'I am sorry little mate, for everything.'
My fingers played with her hair as I slowly felt her relax into me, she needed this as much as I did. 'Nothing to apologize for love, I got so much to explain. But first.. get some sleep.'
She hummed a little yes before her heartbeat indicated she had fallen asleep. My eyes lingered on her a little longer, taking in every inch of her perfect face.
And I knew.
I knew I would risk my life to save her.
I knew I would die for her.
I knew I would be the one to kill Cyllene.
Leto growled lowly at that thought.
We will be the end of Cyllene.
