~Kena POV~

The scent of the infirmary was one of the few I would never be able to get used to. Something was going on and we couldn't figure out what. Questions were building deep inside of me, questions I couldn't answer and questions I didn't want to bother Azalea with until I had some answers. The pack was growing restless with the awaited war. Azalea had been busy training with Belle and Ivy, the little group of women had been pushing themselves harder each day. Azalea had truly accepted her title as Queen of the Lycans and had been pushing herself harder. Studying till late, trying to find a way to break the Lycans free.

I paced around the room as I focused my attention back on Aita. 'Run it again.'

'But Ke-..' She argued, but one cold glare shut her up. She sighed, nodding her head. She turned on her heels and left. I stared at the closed door in the distance. It had been years since they had shown any sign of being alive, so why now? I highly doubted if Azalea had noticed and if she did, she hadn't told me. Not like she had done with Brynn.

'You know, the door does open.' Dani her voice sounded behind me as she pointed to the door knob. I scoffed, 'I know.'

She eyed me carefully, 'What is going on with you?'

'Just a lot on my mind.'

Dani crossed her arms, 'You should tell Azalea, Kena. She freed Brynn as well.'

I frowned, Azalea had been busy training. With Brynn being focused on Alora, every test Aita had run on Alora turned out just fine. It was as if something was holding her down. Brynn solemnly relied on her instincts to protect her mate. No one was allowed near her, only if Azalea told her to stand down. It bothered me that Azalea was the only one that could command Brynn. I knew it was due to their Lycan bond from way before.

Dani rolled her eyes, 'Talk to your fiancé.'

I frowned, hating Dani at the moment. I knew she was right, Dani lit up as she saw her mate round the corner again. A file in her hand. 'Well?'

'Like I said, same results. I can keep checking. I can run the same tests every single time Kena. But it won't change the fact that they show every sign as Brynn did before.' She snapped and I suppressed a growl at the disrespect.

I rubbed my temples, 'Just fix it Aita.' I snapped back. My temper had changed an awfully lot in the past few days. Fire erupted in her eyes, 'Fine. You want me to fix it?' She snarled. 'I'll fucking fix it.' Her eyes clouded over and I instantly knew what she was up to. But before I could move forward Dani forced herself in between us, her hands on our chests keeping us apart.

'One, don't talk to my mate like that.' She growled lowly before turning to her mate. 'Secondly, you look extremely hot like this.' Her voice a low husky sound. I growled, throwing my arms in the air as I moved away.

Aita eyed me, 'I know you have a lot on your mind Kena, but this isn't who you are.'

I paused, slightly taken aback by her words.

'It isn't her fault.' Azalea her sweet voice sounded softly as she approached us. Belle followed her, still trying to catch her breath and I raised my eyebrow. Belle waved me off, 'A young Lycan queen it's.. hard work.'

Azalea turned towards Aita, 'What is up?'

But before Aita could explain the situation, Azalea her eyes lit up. The gold dots surrounding her irises as she listened to the signs. Her ears picking up screaming of the wolves. Belle her eyes widened, she turned towards me. 'You still have Lycans here?'

I frowned, 'They were assigned to me by Deianira to keep me safe. They sacrificed themselves for me. They haven't been awake for years. Azalea somehow woke one up, Brynn. And now the past I few days they.. have been..'

'Screaming.' Belle finished my sentence, I was surprised but nodded my head. Azalea her eyes snapped towards me. 'Days? Days?'

Dani chuckled, 'Oh..oh..'

My eyes darted from her to my mate. Her eyes burning with fire. Belle sighed as she opened the door, walking inside. Azalea tore her gaze away from me before following her inside. 'What happened with Brynn?'

'Brynn was one of the first guardians as well.'

'The other Lycan female, with her mate sick? She was in this state and you.. brought her out of it?'

Azalea nodded her head. 'I was drawn to this room, I just felt this gnawing in the back of my mind. Mixed with screaming and someone telling me to let go of control. Brynn responded to my command.'

'Statum Lunae..' She whispered softly and we all frowned. Belle chuckled, 'It means state of the moon. It is basically a state your wolf lives in while being in our head. It ensures them of safety without dying.'

'That is wild.' Dani breathed.

Belle chuckled. 'Yes, I have never heard of a wolf making its way out.'

'So we need Brynn to explain what she was going through.' I spoke. Azalea sighed next to me, her silver eyes meeting mine. I knew Brynn was ready for it, but she had. I walked out of the room, I was sick and tired of the disrespect by Brynn. Azalea rushed after me as I slammed the door of Alora her private room.

Brynn her eyes burning a bright green as she snarled at me. Azalea placed her hand on my arm, her eyes pleading as she spoke. 'Don't get too upset Kena.. you'd be the exact same way if this happened to me.'

I sighed. I knew she was right and I quickly pulled her into me. Calming Alcione down, somehow she seemed to be more on edge than usual. Belle rounded the corner, her soft eyes roaming the room before landing on Alora. Her eyes darting from Alora to Brynn. She smiled, slowly approaching Brynn. Brynn her eyes softened as she accepted the hug from Belle. The tension leaving her body as she broke down, her cries slicing through me. Azalea pressed herself against me, her sadness radiating through our mate bond.

Alora was her best friend as well.

'Brynn.. we need to ask you something.' I spoke softly.

'We need to know about your Statum Lunae.' Belle carefully asked. Brynn frowned and took a deep breath before turning back to Alora. Her hand holding Alora's as she spoke, 'What do you need to know.'

'Everything. From the beginning.'
