~Brynn~

'Fuck..' I muttered through gritted teeth as my foot got caught in the next bush. 'Freaking hell hole.' I couldn't stop the tears from streaming down my face as I felt the mate bond suffer with the absence of our mate.

It was completely dark in this part of the forest. It had grown too much for me to be able to walk through it freely. Even with my Lycan vision it was hard to see through the thick branches. The past two days I had been roaming around the edge of Lycosura, trying to find a different way in to get Azalea out.

My stomach rumbled, a frustrated sigh left my throat. I turned around to snap the roots that had wrapped itself around my foot. I was hungry, I could barely sense any other kind of small animal. I sat down on a rock, playing with the bracelet around my wrist. It had belong to my mother, I never knew my mother to still be alive and roaming around in Lycosura.

My mother was an amazing woman, losing her mate after my birth. She raised me in a family where women made it happen, with or without a man. She is the one that taught me that fear is not an option. I feared the worst when I felt a sudden snap, I knew something had happened. I could feel my mothers strength and power live in me.

I forced myself to stand up, I needed to keep moving. I knew by now Cyllene had found out I had escaped and had most likely send her puppets after me. I had to cover my tracks. Covering myself in mud, making sure my scent wasn't all over the place.

With every bird that flew up or every branch that broke under my foot, I jumped. I couldn't be seen. I had to save Azalea.

In the distance I could hear the faint running of water. I stumbled through the bushes and many branches until I reached the water. I cupped the water with my hands as I eagerly drank. Letting the cool water run down my throat. The water kind of stilled my hunger.

Suddenly a faint heartbeat startled me, I kept still and closed my eyes as I tried to focus on the vibration of the ground or even a shift in the wind. A soft vibration to my left was my cue as I quickly stepped aside, kicking it hard as it fell face forward into the river.

A snarl escaped me, it wasn't a Lycan. It gasped for air, swiping the water and the plants out of her face. 'The fuck was that Brynn.' Dani growled, frustrated and instantly recognized her. My brows raising in confusion as I extended my hand to help her out. But she smacked it to the side as she climbed out of the river. Using the rocks to steady herself.

'What are you doing here?'

'I could ask you the same question.' She growled.

'I was drinking water, before you rudely interfered.' I chuckled, my eyes roamed over her. Dani sighed, her face contorting in a disgusted face as she wiped the water plants from her body. 'How did you manage to escape?'

'My.. mother helped me escape,' I said, forcing the lump back down my throat. There was no time to cry. 'Why are you here?' I tried to change the subject. Dani eyed me, as she sat down next to me. I knew she wanted to ask about my mother.

'I am here to help Azalea and your sorry ass.' She spoke.

I smiled, pulling her into a hug. A wave of relief washed over me, I couldn't describe how happy I was to see her. 'How is Kena?' I asked and pulled away.

Dani looked at her hands as she played with the flower in her hand. 'Not good, she is hiding her pain and all. But she is extremely weak, the pain comes almost every few minutes.' Dani said softly.

We needed to get Azalea back to Kena and fast. If Kena was doing this bad, I couldn't even imagine how Azalea was feeling. It was the only way to weaken the daughter of the Moon Goddess, keeping their mate away from them. Let alone my mate, 'Alora?'

Dani smiled, 'She is hanging in there for sure. Aita is keeping a close eye on both of them.'

I nodded my head, pushing Alora to the back of my mind. As much as I wanted to think about her, I knew I had to keep my thoughts clear to save Azalea. 'What is your plan?'

Dani eyed me, 'There is this secret cave entrance, but there patrols everywhere. I can barely take out one Lycan. Let alone a group.'

'Alright. I am coming with.' My eyes flashed to my Lycan and Dani gasped, 'No way! How!'

I chuckled, 'Azalea.. broke the chain. It is a long story.'

Dani seemed to hesitate as I started walking to the entrance of the cave. 'I took an oath Dani, you're not stopping me from saving my queen.'

She sighed as she stood, following me carefully through the branches and many trees. I had to admit I wasn't entirely sure where to go. I was just hoping it would magically lead me to the cave. Dani had kind of explained the situation but it didn't make sense to me. Dani growled as her foot got stuck in the same bush I had been stuck in and I couldn't help but laugh. Her eyes shot daggers in my direction. 'Truly can't understand what Alora sees in you. '

'Oh please, I am a delight.' I rolled my eyes.

Dani huffed, 'Yes, we all know you stayed around for your own gain. Just to be released from your oath.' She snapped, breaking free from the bush as she walked past me.

She was right. When I was assigned to protect Kena at all cost, I hated it. Yet I took an oath but I swore to one time break the oath and roam free. Deianira was the one queen I wanted to serve, a part of me felt like I had failed when I failed to protect Deianira. Until I met Azalea, a stubborn copy of her mother. My chance to try again.

'You are right, but that was before I met Azalea,' I argued. She was getting on my nerves and I could feel her roll her eyes at me. 'My Lycan feels at peace protecting her, she.. there is something about her I can't shake. She is more powerful than Deianira was.'

'Because she is mated to Kena? The daughter of the Moon Goddess.' Dani said.

'I am not sure, could be. I feel like there is more to it. Something I can't put my finger on. I mean she did cause an earthquake of what kind when I fought Cyllene.' I spoke, thinking back to the fight. Her anger had caused the ground to shake.

Dani stopped walking as she turned around, her hand on my chest as she stopped me from walking. 'She burned trees down a while ago as well.'

'What?'

'I promised to keep it quiet, until we figured it out. But we took a walk and she got frustrated, angry or whatever. Started to mutter in a language I didn't understand but wanted to follow. Next thing I know the trees next to us started to burn. The minute she calmed down the fire stopped.'

My head suddenly snapped to the right, a branch snapped. Dani growled, the scent of the Lycans hitting my nose. It was too late to run as the Lycans circled us, tilting their heads as they took us in. Dani shifted to her wolf but I took a step forward, closing my eyes before opening them. Revealing my Lycan as I shifted.

They seemed to be taken aback by the sudden change of the fight. Dani her wolf looked at me in awe as I motioned for them to attack. Without another word one of them lunged forward, I closed my eyes as I let my senses guide me.

Stepping aside as I kicked the Lycan to the ground, quickly snapping his neck. The others growled, eyeing each other. 'Two vs two sounds a bit more fair doesn't it?' I snarled. He bared his canines as me as another lunged at me. Swaying his long claws in my direction, forcing me to step backwards. The frustration in his sways gave me an opening, as I dodged to the right and slashing his stomach. He fell to the ground with the blood dripping out of his stomach. I growled as I took a step forward, snapping his neck.

The other Lycan took a step back, fear evident in his eyes. These fake Lycans were no match to me. I was trained by Deianira. The one and only Lycan queen. A growl escaped me, these Lycans were a disgrace to my queen and to the Lycans. With sudden speed, I attacked him. Slashing his tall Lycan body before slitting his throat.

He dropped to the ground with a loud thud.

Dani shifted back, as she eyed the bodies in front of me. 'That was... quite alright to see.'

I shifted back, my eyes meeting hers. 'Let's get going, I got a queen to save.'
