Chapter 12: The Journey Begins
The soft hum of the forest surrounded the cavern house nestled deep within the emerald woods of Starfall City. Moonlight streamed through the gaps in the rocky ceiling, illuminating the rustic furniture and shelves carved into stone walls. The gentle crackle of the small fire in the center pit mingled with the distant chorus of nocturnal creatures.
Catherine's worried gaze lingered on Abisai, who stood rigid near the carved stone table, his fists clenched.
"Abisai, please reconsider," she urged softly, her voice carrying both warmth and quiet strength. "This journey with Basil... it could unlock your true potential."
Abisai's eyes were fixed on the ground, his voice low but unyielding.
"I don't care about potential. I just want a normal life here with you and Lily."
From the shadowed archway of the cavern, Basil stepped forward. His footsteps echoed against the stone, each one deliberate, almost challenging.
"Abisai, are you prepared to embark on this journey?"
Abisai's gaze snapped upward, hostility flashing like steel.
"I told you, Basil. I'm not interested. You can't dictate my path."
Basil's hands opened in a calming gesture as he closed the distance between them. His tone was steady, not aggressive, but there was an undeniable weight to his words.
"I'm not here to dictate anything. I'm here to prepare you. Whether you believe me or not, the world outside Starfall won't let you live quietly forever. I tested you because I needed to know..." He paused, eyes softening as they met Abisai's. "...if you were ready."
Abisai scoffed, his hand instinctively reaching for the sword leaning against the wall.
"Testing me? You barged into our lives and tried to tear us apart. That's not a test-that's cruelty."
Catherine stepped between them, her voice firm but trembling slightly.
"Abisai, stop! This isn't the way."
Basil didn't flinch as the blade's tip hovered near him. His tone was calm but carried the faintest edge of regret.
"I didn't come to hurt you. I came to see if you would fight for what you love, even when it meant facing someone you feared or hated. That's what being a Haven Knight demands. I needed to see... if you were strong enough."
Abisai's jaw tightened, the words hitting deeper than he wanted to admit.
Then, with a single breath, Basil stepped closer and grasped Abisai's shoulder. His eyes locked with his brother's, fierce determination radiating like fire.
"Abisai, listen to me! I am not a deceiver. I am your brother. And I will prove it."
With a sharp cry, Basil's voice echoed through the cavern.
"Armor Link, Activate! Consolation Destiny, Black Wing!"
A blinding green light erupted, filling the cavern with shimmering radiance. Basil's body shifted, his muscles expanding as sleek black and silver armor melded to his form. Feathers like liquid emerald burst from his arms, and a twin pair of swords materialized: a gleaming katana and an ancient elven blade glowing faintly with runes. The cavern air shifted, thick with an aura that carried the weight of two worlds-Perdolian and Elven-melded into one presence.
Catherine gasped, her hand over her mouth. Lily's voice trembled in awe.
"Th-that's... a Haven Knight..."
Abisai's grip on his sword tightened, his voice rough.
"This doesn't prove anything. You could still be a liar... a kidnapper."
Basil's expression softened with a hint of sadness.
"I tested you, Abisai, because I had to be sure you were the same boy I left behind. The same one born of Haven's last light. I never wanted to hurt you. I wanted you to hate me if it meant you would protect what mattered."
