🔥🟥 CHAPTER 59 - FRACTURED HEART: QUEEN OF HEARTS 🟥🔥

The Empress Who Walks Alone

The flagship was never silent.

Even in its stillness, it lived.

A low mechanical hum throbbed through the walls like a slumbering beast. Veins of dim crimson energy crawled beneath the black stone corridors, pulsing at slow intervals, as if the ship itself possessed a heartbeat. Tall archways curved overhead like the ribs of some colossal fallen god, and every torchless hallway was illuminated only by thin bands of ominous red light embedded into the floor and walls. Shadows stretched long and crooked, swallowing corners whole.

And through that dark cathedral of war...

Zoey walked alone.

Her heels clicked sharply against the polished obsidian floor.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Each step echoed farther than it should have, repeating into the distance until it sounded like someone-or something-was following her.

But no one was there.

No attendants. No guards. No soldiers. No advisors.

Only the Queen of Hearts... and the silence she could no longer escape.

Her cape trailed behind her in slow, elegant waves, its crimson lining brushing the floor like liquid blood. The faint glow from the corridor etched itself against her pale skin and reflected in her eyes-eyes once bright with determination, once full of longing and warmth, now clouded by sleepless nights, swallowed pride, and wounds that had never truly healed.

Zoey's expression was composed, regal, unreadable to anyone who might have looked upon her.

But inside?

She was splintering.

Her hand drifted lightly across the wall as she walked, fingertips trailing over the cold black stone.

"How..." she thought, her breathing shallow, "did I end up like this...?"

The question did not come with anger at first.

Only exhaustion.

Only ache.

Only the hollow sting of realizing that somewhere, somehow, life had twisted so far beyond what she once imagined that she could no longer recognize the girl she used to be.

She stopped before one of the towering windows carved into the side of the corridor. Outside, the sky above Starfall City was dark-unnaturally dark. The kind of darkness created not by night, but by domination. War machines floated between the towers like predatory stars. Searchlights swept over the city below. Ships hovered in rigid formation. Scarlet signals blinked through the smoke.

Starfall City.

Her city.

And yet it no longer looked like home.

It looked occupied.

It looked conquered.

It looked like a place holding its breath, waiting for disaster to finish descending.

Zoey stared at the reflection of those crimson skies in the glass.

Her lips parted slightly.

"This war..." she whispered, voice barely audible in the corridor. "This empire..."

Her throat tightened.

"...it was never supposed to be mine."

The words escaped before she could stop them.
