Chapter 30: Hidden Truths and Ancient Legacies
The sleek motor vehicle hummed softly as it glided over the iridescent roads of Starfall City, neon lights flickering across its polished exterior. The sun dipped low, casting the skyline in brilliant hues of amber and rose. Abisai grinned, the wind tousling his dark hair.
“I can’t believe this thing still runs after a whole year in storage,” he said, his voice tinged with pride as he glanced back.
Amelia, sitting behind him, smiled faintly and rested her head against his back, her arms wrapped around his waist. “You’re a genius, Abisai.”
But the closer they got to Amelia’s childhood neighborhood, the tighter the knot in her stomach grew. Each street they passed sparked a memory—bike rides with Denzel, late-night snacks with Tifa, quiet walks with Cloud. Now, returning home after so long, uncertainty gnawed at her resolve.
“What am I going to tell them?” she murmured, almost to herself. “How do I explain why I never called?”
Abisai’s smile faded. He understood all too well. “Maybe… don’t tell them everything. Not yet,” he said. “If they knew what we’ve really been through—the Pedolians, the Dark Haven Empire… me—” He hesitated. “They might just see me as the one who got you into danger.”
Amelia glanced down, her fingers brushing the Orion sigil tattooed on Abisai’s forearm, glowing faintly beneath his sleeve. “They wouldn’t understand. None of this is normal anymore.”
“One step at a time,” Abisai said gently. “Let’s just get you home first.”

The Lockhart Residence
The house looked exactly as Amelia remembered: warm, familiar, untouched by time. As they stepped up to the porch, the front door burst open before they could even knock.
“Amelia!” Tifa gasped, rushing forward and enveloping her daughter in a fierce embrace. Her hands trembled as they clung tightly, unwilling to let go.
“Mom…” Amelia whispered, tears welling.
Cloud appeared in the doorway, his usually stern features softening as he took in the sight of his daughter. He wrapped his arms around them both, pulling them close. “You’re home… and safe,” he murmured, voice thick with emotion.
A few heartbeats passed before the warmth was broken by Tifa’s gentle but concerned voice. “Amelia, why didn’t you call us? You promised to send updates from your trip.”
Amelia stiffened slightly. She had rehearsed this in her head—her carefully constructed lie.
“I… I tried,” she said, lowering her gaze. “We were always moving—between forests, ruins, old villages. Some places barely had signal, and when I could get through, it just never lasted long enough. I didn’t want to send a half-message and scare you.”
Tifa’s brows drew together. “You were gone so long, we started to think the worst.”
Cloud’s eyes narrowed as they shifted to Abisai. “And you,” he said sharply. “You were supposed to protect my daughter. What exactly happened?”
Abisai stepped forward, shoulders squared despite the storm brewing behind his calm expression. “Mr. Lockhart… I take full responsibility. I should’ve done more. I’m sorry for the fear and pain we caused.”
Cloud studied him in silence, then gave a small nod—not forgiveness, but perhaps acknowledgment.
Amelia took a shaky breath. “There’s so much I want to explain,” she said quietly, her voice starting to tremble. “But maybe not all at once…”
