Chapter 48: Alliances Forged in Shadows

---

Crizanagi Residence - Evening

The soft amber light of the kitchen flickered gently, casting long shadows over the worn wooden table. Catherine and Lily moved with quiet purpose, their hands deftly preparing a humble meal. The scent of herbs and simmering broth mingled with the lingering tension that filled the room.

Austria sat by the window, her delicate frame wrapped in a faded shawl. Though the months spent in prison had drained her strength, her pale face still held a quiet dignity. Her sharp, emerald eyes tracked Amelia, who sat nearby in silent vigil, offering comfort without words.

A faint, bittersweet smile brushed Austria's lips.

Even if she doesn't know... my daughter is here. Safe. That's enough.

The creak of the door interrupted the fragile peace.

Abisai entered, his battle-worn armor stained with dirt and sweat. He froze for a moment, surprised to find Austria alive-and here.

"Where's the Codex?" Her voice was edged with urgency.

Austria met his gaze steadily, unshaken despite the weariness beneath her eyes. "Tell me everything."

Abisai exhaled sharply. "I fought Infinite. He revealed a new form-power unlike anything I've ever seen. I barely escaped with my life. But... I failed to retrieve the Codex."

Austria's eyes flickered with disappointment-not anger, but the weight of expectation unmet.

"It doesn't matter," she said quietly, voice steady as stone. "He cannot use it."

From the shadows, Tony, Mida, Sirius, and Ashley exchanged startled glances.

Sirius stepped forward, brow furrowed. "Wait... why can't he use it?"

Austria's gaze hardened with quiet authority. "I bound the Codex with a spell-a seal that only a heart pure enough can break. Even if he had it, without a skilled spellcaster to undo the magic, it remains locked."

Her eyes softened as they settled on Amelia.

"And I am not in any condition to perform that task now."

Amelia's breath caught, eyes wide with dawning realization.

"So... since I hold the Staff of Aurora... that means I'm-"

"A spellcaster," Austria confirmed, a faint smile warming her expression. "Just what Infinite will need to break the seal. But he does not yet know this."

Abisai's eyes flickered with renewed hope.

"Then we make sure that happens."

Tony's face darkened. "There's one problem-we barely escaped with our lives. And we don't have an army."

The room fell into heavy silence, broken only by the sound of approaching footsteps.

The door opened to reveal Lysandra, her presence both graceful and commanding.

"Perhaps I can assist," she said, voice calm but confident.

Abisai's lips curved into a weary smile. "Good to see you again, Lysandra. But how exactly can you help us now?"

Lysandra's eyes glimmered with ancient knowledge. "The Mystic Force still stands-the ancient elves. Their warriors could turn the tide in our favor."

Lily frowned skeptically. "No offense, but your son isn't exactly welcoming to humans... or half-elves. Especially since he is one. He doesn't trust outsiders easily."
