It had taken a little convincing for them to allow Sans to run a DNA test on Eri. He didn't exactly blame the kid for her fears. She'd been experimented on her entire life. But her 'Rewind' ability was too much like reset for him, not to check. He'd tried to figure out what happened to Frisk since day one. If Eri was a direct descendant... well, someone had to teach her control, didn't they? Eri had nobody, just like Frisk. If he could succeed where he had failed, Frisk- not turn this kid into a monster murdering psychopath- maybe he could finally rest easy. The burden of the resets could finally lift from his shoulders. Plus, Eri could learn a little about her family lineage, so long as he kept the genocides to himself. Eri didn't need to know that. As far as this timeline was concerned, it never happened. Sans looked at the feverish little girl on the bed. "i promise, eri, i won't fail you this time." Sans promised as he slipped out. He still needed to meet the others about Nighteye. The human was on his deathbed, after all, and needed to be present for his student... as well as Toshinori.

Sans stuck around to provide comfort to everyone involved with Sir Nighteye. "you did a great job today, kid. i'm proud, and i can tell that he was too." Sans grinned sorrowfully at Izuku before turning to Mirio. "and you too, mirio. you were amazing, and i never got to say thank you for saving me back there. my friends and i will do whatever we can to help you recover." He promised. Mirio was too good a guy and hero to lose his quirk, just like that. With Alphys now in the tech support, maybe they could look in on it together or something... after he figured out what to do with Eri. Sans dragged himself out of his thoughts as Mirio smiled at him, startling him, considering the somber mood. Sans could tell the student was still grieving, and yet... "I believe you, Judge! As long as we keep smiling and training, we will both be strong for Sir Nighteye and Eri, right, Deku?" Izuku jumped when he was addressed, self blame written all over his face. It was something Mirio wouldn't allow as he dragged Izuku up and out of the hospital and back to the school.

Sans checked on Toshinori before going straight back to Eri to await the results. The retired hero was grieving in his own way and wanted time to himself. Shota followed after him, despite his injuries. "You called this girls quirk, reset. I thought reset rewound time?" He asked just outside the door. "and it's not. but i can't ignore the similarities." Sans replied as he looked up at Shota. "nezu is running a dna test not to see if she's a direct descendant." Shota looked inside, looked at the white haired girl. "And if she is?" Sans did the same, noting just how different she looked compared to Frisk. "i'm the only one that can help her. keep her from becoming-"
"Eri isn't Frisk, Sans. You know that. And you don't have to carry this burden alone. Everyone in UA will help with Eri and her... unique quirk." Sans sighed, rubbing his skull. "do you think i'll ever be able to just... let go?" Sans asked suddenly. Shota seemed to understand what he meant. "Frisk traumatized you. Hurt you in ways nobody would begin to understand. It will take a lot of time, and a good support group. I honestly don't know I you will, Sans. But, I will be here to help. Every step of the way." Shota promised, bending down to kiss Sans skull.

Nezu cleared his throat, catching the pro's attention. As much as Nezu wanted to ask what they were talking about, he felt now wasn't the time. Inside, he held out the reports of Eri's family line, according to the DNA test. "ah- thanks, principle." Sans gave Nezu a strained grin before burying himself in the papers, seeming to be looking for a specific result. Sans sucked in a breath and pointed it out to Aizawa. The teacher looked it over before putting his arm around Sans in a form of comfort. "You're alright, Sans. You're not alone..." Sans glanced from the paper to the girl and back again. "i can't let... i need to make sure, shota. i know about reset better than anyone and rewind can't be much different." Shota nodded along in agreement. "We will help her control her abilities, as I said. She won't be anything like her great, great grandmother." He assured. It seemed to Nezu... Sans had some history with the girl... or more specifically, her quirk.

Sans had so many questions. How did Frisk's descendant end up in Japan? What happened to Frisk after his dad had created the barrier? Were the not affected since Gaster was outside of space and time? How many resets had it taken before Frisk realized that they couldn't fix what had been done? How many generations of reset had happened before it became Rewind? So many questions and Sans would never get any answers. Frisk was long dead and all that was left of his tormentor was Eri. Sans didn't want to leave her alone. He was scared. But he also felt protective. Eri was both his worst fear and greatest home. The one who could make or break the cycle that lived in his skull. His paranoia and torment would always be there, as Shota had said. But maybe... Eri could lessen it under Sans and Shota's guidance? Was that unfair of him to want from a little girl who was pretty much a stranger to him? Sans got comfortable in a chair, ready to wait and ask if she wanted to come home with him. Shota was going to discuss it with Nezu.
