what color is this?"

"blue!"

"yes! good job, mama."

the little girl was up and active this morning while taraji slept. so i decided to learn colors and animals with her while i cooked.

i was gonna ask for a chef, but i didn't want any outsiders in my house while they were here. i respected tarajis' decision of not wanting them to be seen in the public eye, and inviting a stranger in here may ruin that, so i decided to make breakfast myself.

i did alot of begging just to get taraji here. im not even gonna tell you guys how long it took for her to even so much as step foot inside of the suv. the only thing that matters is that they're here now.

"are you ready to go to school?"

"yes, but mommy says im not old enough."

"so i take it you're twelve, right?" i joked, earning a giggle from her.

"no!"

"ummm, are you....thirty?"

"no!" her laugh was contagious.

"are you....four?"

"yes!" i jumped around and clapped.

"i guessed it, i guessed it, i guess it right, uh!" i danced, i could tell she wanted to join, but she didn't. instead, she just wiggled a little.

"may i help with that?" she pointed at the pancake batter that i was stirring.

"yes, of course you can, but we have to be very, very careful, okay?"

"yes ma'am."

we poured a little in the pan and then clapped.

"you did it!"

"we both di–" she paused and held her belly.

"i dont feel so well."

"do you need to go to the bathroom?"

"n-no i need mommy."

i turned the stove down and picked her up, taking her into the room taraji was in. she was knocked out still.

"taraji"

"hm?" she spoke with her eyes closed.

"mommy, i don't feel so good." her eyes shot open, and she got up quickly grabbing the pink bookbag.

"does she need anything?"

"yes, juice, please. here, let mommy check your pressure." i ran downstairs and got cranberry juice, pouring some in a cup, giving it to her.

she drank a little and snuggled back into tarajis chest, "is she gonna be okay?"

"yeah, her sugar was low."

"the pancakes are gonna burn."

"well, can you rescue them for me?"

"may i?" she asked taraji.

"yeah, but be careful, princess. i love you."

"okay, i love you too."

i smiled at the interaction.

"last one down is a rotten egg." she ran out not once looking back, "hey, i took the day off. so we could all relax in and work tomorrow. if thats okay with you, tab will keep her occupied while youre on the clock."

"its fine, and thank you."

"you're welcome. have you forgiven me yet?"

"maybe a little."

"well, at least we're getting somewhere. see you in a few."

the next morning, i woke up super early so that i would have enough time to dress myself and laila. i just couldn't find our clothes, and i grew frustrated, but then there was a note on the nightstand.

deep breath. the clothes are in the drawer and breakfast is downstairs :) -Tasia

i released the breath that i didnt realize i was holding in. i opened it and saw that they were neatly folded and placed in there. there were also some new ones, but since the old ones were cleaned, i chose them instead.

since laila was still asleep, i went ahead and got my shower and hygiene out of the way. she had every hygienic item you could think of. it made me happy because we haven't had these things in years. i repeated the same routine with laila. she had so much hair. i didnt quite know what to do with it, so i just brushed it up into a high bun.

"mommy, my shoes are breaking now."

"i know, baby. mommy will be able to get your more soon. how about that?"

"okay!"

"alright, let's go." i grabbed her hand, and we left.

i promised her i would get her shoes on her 4th birthday, but i lost my job the day before. i was disappointed in myself for breaking that promise, but i knew that someday i would make it up to her.
