Chapter 34: A Little Chaos and a Big Reunion

---

It’s been four days since Dua left for her tour, and Y/N has settled into a rhythm with their 1-year-old son, River. The house is unusually peaceful, with Y/N and River curled up on the couch, snacks scattered across the coffee table as they watch one of River’s favourite shows. Oscar, their loyal dog, is sprawled on the floor nearby, keeping an eye on the two.

“Mama,” River suddenly says, his little voice breaking the quiet. “Mummy call?”

Y/N looks down at him, surprised at how well he’s picked up on their routine. “You want to call Mummy?” she asks, smiling.

River’s eyes light up as he nods eagerly, “Mummy!”

Y/N chuckles, pulling out her phone and dialling Dua. After a few rings, Dua’s face pops up on the screen, a smile spreading across her face when she sees them.

“Hey, my loves!” Dua says warmly, her voice full of joy despite the long days on tour.

“Mummy!” River squeals, grabbing at the phone. Y/N helps him hold it, and River immediately starts babbling away in his baby talk, telling Dua about his day, although much of it is gibberish.

Dua listens intently, nodding and laughing. “Wow, sounds like you’ve been busy, little man!”

After a few minutes of River’s babble, Y/N joins in the conversation. “How’s the tour going?” she asks.

“It’s good,” Dua replies, though the tiredness in her voice is evident. “But I miss you both so much. Just a few more days, and I’ll be home.”

“We miss you too,” Y/N says softly, feeling the weight of Dua’s absence. “But we’re doing okay. River’s keeping me on my toes.”

After a few more exchanges, it’s time for Dua to get ready for her next soundcheck. “Love you both,” she says, waving at the screen. “Be good for Mama, okay, River?”

River waves enthusiastically, “Bye-bye, Mummy!”

The call ends, and Y/N sets the phone aside, pulling River into a hug and kissing the top of his head. “Alright, kiddo, let’s see what’s next.”

---

After the call, the TV plays quietly in the background as Y/N starts to doze off on the couch, the long day catching up with her. River, however, is wide awake. He looks at his mama, noticing her eyes are closed. A mischievous grin spreads across his face.

Wriggling out of her arms, River toddles over to Oscar, patting the dog’s back. “Bluey elp,” he whispers to the dog, mispronouncing “Bluey,” which has become his nickname for Oscar.

Oscar doesn’t move much. it just gives River a lazy look, but that’s all the encouragement River needs. He waddles off toward Y/N’s office, with Oscar slowly following behind.

Once inside, River spots Y/N’s markers on her desk, and his eyes light up. Reaching up on his tiptoes, he grabs a bright blue marker and looks around for paper. When he can’t find any, his little brain quickly forms a new idea.

He hurries back into the living room, marker in hand, and stops by the couch where Y/N is still peacefully asleep. Smiling with determination, he uncaps the marker and carefully begins drawing all over her arm, his baby scribbles quickly covering her forearm.

Oscar sits nearby, wagging his tail gently as he watches River with mild interest. River, giggling quietly to himself, finishes his masterpiece and looks at it proudly.

Satisfied with his work, River wants to show Mama. With Oscar’s help, he climbs back onto the couch and positions himself next to Y/N. With a loud smack, he pats her cheek to wake her up.

Y/N jerks awake, startled. “River!” she gasps, looking around in confusion. Her eyes land on her son, who is grinning proudly, the blue marker still clutched in his little fist.

“Mama!” River squeals happily, showing her the marker. “Tattoo! Like Mummy!”

Y/N blinks, confused for a moment, before looking down at her arm. Her entire forearm is covered in blue marker scribbles. She gasps again, trying not to laugh. “Oh no… River! What did you do?”

River giggles, clearly proud of himself. “Tattoo, Mama! Like Mummy!” he repeats, pointing at the artwork covering her skin.

Y/N can’t help but laugh now, though she’s slightly panicking as she realizes the marker is permanent. “River, this is… not exactly what I meant when I said we can do art together.”

River just claps his hands, clearly delighted by the situation, while Y/N stares at her arm, resigned to the fact that she’s going to be sporting this "tattoo" for a while. “Guess I’m a walking canvas now.”

---

After the marker incident, Y/N decides they need to get out of the house for some fresh air. “Let’s go to the park,” she says, scooping up River and giving him a quick change. As she’s getting ready, River looks at her, big eyes full of excitement.

“Park! Bluey Park, too?” River asks, his little hand patting Oscar’s head.

Y/N smiles. “Yes, Bluey’s coming too.”

As they get ready elsewhere, Elizabeth is preparing for a much-needed break herself. After a hectic week, she’s decided to take her dog, Lucky, to the park for some peace. Packing up some snacks and a drink, she heads out, hoping for a relaxing afternoon in the fresh air.

Little does she know that her quiet park day is about to get a lot more eventful when she crosses paths with an old friend—Y/N.
