Chapter 19: Life in the Spotlight

The buzz surrounding Dua's confession on Jimmy Kimmel Live had barely died down when the paparazzi ramped up their pursuit. Y/N had expected attention, but this was another level.

They sat together on the couch, surrounded by scattered gossip magazines that were all splashed with headlines about their relationship.

“Look at this one,” Y/N said, holding up a magazine with a photo of them laughing together on the cover. The headline read: “Dua Ditches the Single Life for Y/N: A New Power Couple?”

Dua flipped to another page and snorted. “They’ve got a headline that says, ‘Dua and Mystery Woman Spotted Buying Matching Rings – Are Wedding Bells Near?’”

Y/N leaned in, eyebrows raised. “Matching rings? Really? I didn’t even know we were shopping!”

Dua laughed, tossing the magazine aside dramatically. “I don’t even wear rings! Good thing we didn’t get tacos that night. They’d have had us moving in together.”

“Honestly, at this point, I wouldn’t mind sharing a taco,” Y/N joked, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. “But seriously, we can’t let them get to us. We’re in this together, remember?”

Dua sighed, nestling into Y/N’s side. “I know. But it’s overwhelming. Every time I go out, I feel like I’m in a circus. They don’t stop shouting questions. ‘When’s the wedding?’ ‘Are you two planning to have kids?’”

“I guess we should start practicing our ‘no comment’ faces,” Y/N suggested with a smirk.

Dua playfully nudged Y/N. “You think that’ll work? We’ll just look like deer caught in headlights.”

“Maybe we’ll just become the world’s most awkward couple,” Y/N laughed, leaning in to kiss her forehead.

A Getaway for Privacy

Later that week, Y/N had an idea. They sat together on the couch, the remnants of takeout boxes littering the coffee table. “What do you say we disappear for a weekend? Just you and me, no cameras, no drama?”

Dua’s eyes lit up immediately. “Are you kidding? Yes! Where are we going?”

Y/N grinned mischievously. “The Hamptons. Just like that first night, remember? Karaoke, terrible dancing… except this time, no Abel or Gale embarrassing us.”

Dua laughed at the memory. “Oh God, the karaoke night. You were the one belting out ABBA at the top of your lungs. I was just trying to keep up!”

“And you loved every second of it,” Y/N replied, pulling her into a playful side hug.

Dua shook her head, giggling. “Okay, fine, I did. But if we’re going to the Hamptons, we need to practice our karaoke skills. I’m not letting you be the only star this time!”

They both laughed, the stress of the past few weeks momentarily fading away.

The Hamptons turned out to be the perfect getaway. The beach was serene, and the sun set beautifully on the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink.

One evening, as they sat on the beach, Y/N turned to Dua, who was gazing at the waves. “So… do you ever think about the future?”

Dua turned her head, her eyes sparkling in the twilight. “Future as in… next week or way down the line?”

Y/N smiled softly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Dua's ear. “Both, I guess. I mean, it feels like everything’s changed so fast. With us being public now… it changes things, doesn’t it?”
