Chapter 23

Six Months In - The First Proposal

Six months had passed since Y/N and Dua had started dating, and while their relationship had been everything they could have hoped for, a cloud of uncertainty loomed over them. Y/N's loan spell at Gotham FC was coming to an end. Soon, she would return to Barcelona for the new season, and Dua would head back to London to focus on her music. The thought of being apart weighed heavily on both of them, but neither wanted to be the first to bring it up.

One evening, as they sat on the couch, Y/N's arm wrapped around Dua while they mindlessly watched TV, the tension between them was palpable. The movie on screen faded into the background as their thoughts drifted to the inevitable distance.

Dua let out a sigh, breaking the silence. "You're going back to Barcelona soon," she said quietly, her fingers tracing absent patterns on Y/N's thigh.

Y/N's chest tightened at the words. She didn't want to think about leaving. "Yeah," she replied softly, turning her head to look at Dua. "And you'll be going back to London."

Dua nodded, biting her lip. "I hate this. I hate the idea of being apart again. I thought... after these six months together, we'd figure out something."

Y/N's heart clenched. "I know. I hate it too. But we always knew it was going to be tough with our schedules. Football, music... it's not exactly easy to line up, but... I don't want this to end, Dua. We'll figure it out, I promise."

Dua sat up slightly, looking at Y/N with uncertainty in her eyes. "You think we can do long distance again? I mean, we've done it before, but... it was hard."

Y/N could feel the weight of Dua's words, the fear and uncertainty beneath them. She took a deep breath and reached for Dua's hand, squeezing it gently. "It was hard, yeah. But this time feels different, doesn't it? We've gotten closer, we've built something... real."

Dua's eyes searched Y/N's face. "What if we lose that? What if the distance makes us... I don't know... drift apart?"

Y/N felt a pang in her chest. She didn't want to lose Dua either, not for anything. "That's not going to happen. I'm not going to let that happen."

"But how can you be so sure?" Dua's voice wavered slightly. "We'll be miles apart. You'll be in Barcelona, I'll be in London... how are we supposed to keep this alive?"

Y/N knew Dua's fears were valid. The distance wasn't going to be easy, but she had a plan. She had been thinking about it for weeks, and tonight seemed like the perfect time to put it into action.

"Okay," Y/N said, her voice firmer now. "How about we make a deal? Before we get caught up in the chaos of our lives again... let's take a trip. Just the two of us. No distractions, no work, no pressure. We'll go somewhere magical."

Dua's eyebrows lifted in surprise. "A trip? Where would we go?"

Y/N smiled softly. "I was thinking... we could go see the Northern Lights. It's been on both of our bucket lists, right? I've already checked, and the timing would be perfect."

Dua's eyes sparkled at the mention of the Northern Lights, her earlier anxiety momentarily fading. "The Northern Lights? That sounds... incredible. Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure," Y/N said, her voice warm and reassuring. "I want to do this with you, Dua. I want to make some memories before we have to say goodbye for a while. What do you say?"

Dua smiled, the tension in her shoulders easing as she leaned back into Y/N's arms. "I say yes. Let's go."
