Reconnecting with Elizabeth

Y/N sat on the edge of the bed, the room quiet except for the soft hum of the city outside. The decision to call Elizabeth had been lingering in their mind for days. It had taken some time to process everything—Dua's calm acceptance, the decision to part ways, and the shifting of their lives in different directions. But now, more than ever, Y/N felt the need to reconnect with the one person who had always been a part of their heart.

Taking a deep breath, Y/N picked up the phone and dialed Elizabeth’s number. It rang twice before her familiar voice filled the silence.

"Y/N?" Elizabeth’s tone was warm, laced with the cautious curiosity that came from not having spoken for some time.

"Hey," Y/N began softly. "I wanted to call you... There's been a lot going on."

"I can tell," Elizabeth replied, her voice kind but measured. "Is everything okay?"

Y/N let out a sigh. "Dua and I… we’ve decided to separate. It was mutual, but it’s still a lot to process. I wanted you to know because... well, I think it’s time I’m honest with myself, and with you too."

Elizabeth was silent for a moment, and Y/N could feel the weight of her words sinking in on the other end.

"I’m sorry to hear that," Elizabeth said gently. "I know that couldn’t have been easy."

"It wasn’t," Y/N admitted. "But I think it was inevitable. We both realized that there were parts of our lives we weren’t being true to, and for me... I was never fully over you."

Elizabeth’s breath hitched slightly, but she kept her composure. "I always wondered if you felt that way too. But what about River? How do you think this will affect her?"

Y/N paused, the question hanging heavily between them. "I don’t know," they said truthfully. "But I care about her too much to make this about me. I want to do what’s best for her, and I need your help with that."

"Of course," Elizabeth replied, her voice firm with resolve. "River loves you, Y/N. That hasn’t changed. And neither have I." There was a brief pause before she continued, "But I need to know… are you ready for this? For us?"

Y/N’s heart raced as they considered Elizabeth’s words. They had spent so long running from their feelings, burying them under what they thought was the right thing to do. But now, standing on the precipice of change, Y/N felt ready to face what they had always wanted.

"I am," Y/N said, the conviction in their voice clear. "I’ve been ready for a long time, I just didn’t realize it."

Elizabeth was quiet for a moment before responding. "Then let's take it slow, for River's sake. But I’ve always been here, Y/N. And I’m not going anywhere."

A soft smile tugged at Y/N’s lips as they realized just how much they had missed this feeling—the warmth, the familiarity, the sense of home that Elizabeth brought with her presence. For the first time in a long while, Y/N felt a sense of peace settle over them.

"I’ve missed you, Liz," Y/N whispered.

"I’ve missed you too," Elizabeth said softly. "We’ll figure this out, together."

As the conversation wound down, Y/N felt lighter, as if the weight of the past few months was beginning to lift. They knew there were still challenges ahead—Dua’s acceptance, River’s feelings, and the slow rebuild of trust with Elizabeth—but for the first time in a long while, Y/N felt hopeful.

They would take it one step at a time, with Elizabeth by their side, just as it had always been meant to be.
