Bonus Chapter: River’s First Words and the Chaos of Parenthood

As the sun began to rise over their cozy London home, Y/N and Dua could hear the soft sounds of their baby son, River, cooing from his crib. It was a typical morning filled with laughter, chaos, and the undeniable love that came with being new parents.

Dua peeked into the nursery, grinning at the sight of River, now just over six months old, babbling to himself as he lay on his play mat, surrounded by colorful toys. Oscar Blue, their loyal husky, was lying beside him, keeping a watchful eye. The bond between River and Oscar was undeniable; the dog was fiercely protective, never straying far from the baby’s side.

“Look at him, Dua,” Y/N said, joining her in the doorway. “He’s so curious already.”

Dua chuckled, leaning against the doorframe. “And a little troublemaker. Just wait until he starts crawling. I can already see him getting into everything.”

As if on cue, River rolled over, his tiny arms and legs flailing as he attempted to crawl. Y/N quickly rushed over to encourage him, while Dua grabbed her phone to capture the moment.

“Come on, buddy! You can do it!” Y/N cheered, clapping her hands.

With a determined look on his face, River pushed off and managed to move forward, only to flop onto his belly, giggling at his own efforts. Oscar wagged his tail excitedly, joining in the fun.

The First Words

As River grew older, his first birthday approached, and both Y/N and Dua were eager for him to speak his first words. The couple had set up a fun little competition to see who could coax River into saying their respective titles first—“Mommy” for Dua and “Mama” for Y/N.

“Okay, River, say ‘Mommy!’” Dua encouraged, bouncing on her heels as she sat in front of him.

“Say ‘Mama!’” Y/N chimed in, trying to get River's attention from the side.

River looked from one parent to the other, his big blue eyes wide with curiosity. Suddenly, he pointed towards Oscar Blue, who was sitting patiently beside him. “Boo!” River exclaimed, his voice clear as day.

Y/N and Dua exchanged incredulous glances before bursting into laughter.

“Not quite what we were going for, but I’ll take it!” Y/N chuckled, wiping a tear from her eye. “Bluey it is!”

Dua smiled, shaking her head. “At least he loves the dog! Let’s hope he’ll say ‘Mommy’ or ‘Mama’ next time.”

But River had his own plans. He continued to babble, often calling for Oscar Blue instead of his parents, causing Y/N and Dua to engage in playful banter as they tried to win him over.

The Painting Moments

As River approached eight months, his personality began to shine. One afternoon, Y/N had an idea for a fun activity to bond with their son. “How about we do some painting today?” they suggested, pulling out non-toxic, washable paints and big sheets of paper.

Dua’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Yes! But we should probably prepare for the chaos.”

With River sitting in his high chair, covered in a smock that was a little too big for him, Y/N and Dua handed him a paintbrush. The moment he touched the paint, it was pure magic—River’s tiny fingers smeared colors everywhere. Paint splattered on his face, on his clothes, and somehow, all over Oscar Blue, who sat nearby, looking bewildered.

“Look at him go!” Dua laughed, snapping photos as River grinned and giggled, oblivious to the mess. He dipped the brush into blue paint and then, with a determined look, tried to paint Oscar’s fur.

“Oh no! Not the dog!” Y/N exclaimed, trying to save Oscar from the impending disaster. But River was quick, and Oscar didn’t seem to mind too much, wagging his tail as he got painted.

“Looks like we have a little artist on our hands!” Dua laughed, reaching for her phone to capture the hilarity. “I think he’s trying to give Oscar a makeover!”

With a mischievous glint in her eye, Dua grabbed another brush and decided to join in. “Alright, my turn!” She began painting her own cheek, making exaggerated strokes and pretending to be a serious artist. “This is modern art, everyone!”

“Modern art? More like modern mess!” Y/N quipped, grabbing a wet wipe to clean up the chaos. Just then, River, with paint-covered hands, decided it would be fun to reach for Y/N's face.

“No! Not me too!” Y/N yelped, dodging just in time as River erupted into laughter, the sound echoing through the room.

The Chaos of Parenthood

As River grew closer to his first birthday, walking became the new challenge. He would pull himself up on furniture, wobbling as he took his first shaky steps. One day, Y/N set up a mini obstacle course in their living room, filled with pillows and soft toys.

“Come on, River! You can do it!” Y/N encouraged, clapping their hands.

River took a tentative step, then another, before falling into a pile of pillows. “Yay!” Dua cheered, rushing over to scoop him up. “You’re a superstar!”

Just then, Oscar Blue decided to join the fun, barking and playfully nudging River. “Oscar, be careful!” Y/N laughed, watching as the dog seemed to encourage River to get back up.

“Maybe they can race!” Dua suggested. “On your marks, get set—go!”

River crawled toward Oscar, who was doing a hilarious happy dance, wagging his tail as if cheering him on. “I think Oscar is the coach we didn’t know we needed!” Y/N laughed. “Look at that enthusiasm!”

The Sweet Moments

One evening, after a day filled with giggles and mess, Y/N and Dua settled down with River for bedtime. Y/N held River close as Dua read him a bedtime story.

As Dua finished the story, she looked down at River, who was slowly drifting off to sleep. “Can you believe how fast he’s growing?” Dua whispered, looking at Y/N with a tender smile.

“Every day is a new adventure,” Y/N replied softly, brushing a hand over River’s head. “And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Dua leaned over and kissed River’s forehead gently. “I can’t wait to see what else he’ll do this year.”

But just as they thought they could finally relax, River let out a loud burp, followed by a fit of giggles.

“What was that, little man?” Y/N asked, trying to stifle laughter. “A pre-bedtime concert?”

Dua giggled, “He’s just making sure we know who’s really in charge here.”

As they tucked River in, Oscar Blue settled at the foot of the crib, keeping watch over his little brother. And in that moment, amidst the chaos and love, Y/N and Dua knew they were in for the most beautiful ride of their lives—one filled with laughter, love, and a little boy named River Atlas Y/L/N-Lipa.
