Shadows that Watch

In the stillness of twilight, when daylight retreats,
A dance of dark whispers begins in the streets.
With fingers like smoke, they curl and they creep,
These shadows that linger, too restless for sleep.

They stretch on the pavement, elongate and twist,
A phantom parade that cannot be missed.
I catch a brief glimpse, and my breath holds tight,
As shadows grow bolder in the depth of the night.

They flicker like memories just out of reach,
Each corner they haunt feels like a lesson to teach.
A shiver runs cold as they glide through the air,
With secrets they carry, too heavy to bear.

They whisper my name in a voice like a sigh,
A haunting reminder of fears that won't die.
I turn to escape, but they follow my stride,
These shadows that watch, that refuse to abide.

With each step I take, they mirror my fear,
An echo of darkness that draws ever near.
I quicken my pace, but they keep me in tow,
A dance of confusion, a haunting tableau.

They flicker in doorways, they linger in light,
Those shadows that whisper, unseen in plain sight.
With eyes like the void, they observe and they scheme,
Feeding on worries, they shatter my dream.

A fleeting reflection, a face in the gloom,
A glimpse of the darkness that waits for my doom.
I clutch at the light, but it fades with the day,
These shadows that watch, they will not go away.

They know every secret, each doubt that I hide,
With tendrils of fear, they twist and divide.
No matter how quickly I run from the past,
These shadows are patient, they'll always outlast.

So I stand in the silence, I face what I dread,
Embrace these dark shadows, let them fill my head.
For in their cold presence, I find my own might,
In shadows that watch, I reclaim the night.

Though hidden they linger, and danger may loom,
I learn from their whispers, transforming the gloom.
And when dawn breaks anew, casting light on my fears,
I'll carry the shadows, but no longer in tears.
