Breaking Free

In the shadows I lingered, a prisoner of fear,
Chained to my mirror, the whispers were clear.
Each day was a battle, a relentless fight,
Against the reflections that stole my own light.

With every restriction, a piece of me cracked,
The joy turned to shadows, the laughter was tracked.
I counted each calorie, weighed down by the scales,
In a prison of numbers, my spirit exhaled.

But deep in my heart, a spark began to glow,
A flicker of courage, a longing to grow.
I dreamed of a day when I'd rise from this plight,
Where the chains of perfection no longer held tight.

I whispered to myself, "You're more than a size,
Your worth is not measured by the scale's cruel lies."
And slowly the chains that had bound me so tight
Started to rust, to crumble, to fight.

With each gentle step toward the freedom I crave,
I embraced the unknown, no longer a slave.
The weight of the world, I began to release,
As I learned that in kindness, my spirit finds peace.

The taste of new flavors, the joy in the feast,
I savored the moments, my hunger unleashed.
With every small victory, I found my own voice,
In a symphony of healing, I made the choice.

I looked in the mirror, and for the first time,
Saw a body worth loving, a heart filled with rhyme.
No longer a canvas for society's frame,
I painted my journey, unashamed of my name.

With friends by my side, their laughter a balm,
I gathered my strength, my spirit grew calm.
In the garden of healing, I planted my roots,
Watered by self-love, nurtured by truths.

Breaking free from the chains that once held me down,
I rise from the ashes, reclaiming my crown.
For the path may be winding, but I know I'll prevail,
In the journey of healing, I will set my own sail.

So here's to the battles, the scars that remain,
To the strength found in struggle, the beauty in pain.
With each breath I take, I'll celebrate me,
In the light of acceptance, I'm finally free.
