-Two Months Later-

As I blended my concealer, gazing into the mirror, I reflected on the notion that prom is the most significant dance of one's life. Now, as my turn has arrived, I find myself once again bringing my boyfriend along for the experience.

Osamu let out a sigh, as he sat on the floor, resting his head against my thigh while I sat in my vanity's chair. "Women take too long to get ready."

"You can do something else while I get ready if you want." I stroked his hair with my left hand, as I continued to finish up my makeup with my right. "I made sure that I'd have more than enough time."

"No, I'm too comfy here."

-An Hour Later-

Boredom struck Osamu less than forty minutes ago, prompting him to retreat to the living room and watch television. I now had my gorgeous (f/c) dress on with my (silver/gold) jewelry. My hair was styled in a (hair style), which I found on Pinterest, when me and my friends were looking up hair and makeup inspiration during lunch.

"I'm done." I announced, once I made it out of our bedroom.

The brunette's eyes lit up as he approached me, a smile gracing his face. Without a word, he picked me up by my waist and spun me around a few times, before setting me back down and passionately kissing me.

"You look like a princess," he smiled.

"Thanks." I blushed, sinking into his chest. My boyfriend's suit was similar to what he normally wore, but looked a little more elegant, since his sleeves weren't rolled up. "You look very nice."

"Aww, you flatter me, (Y/n)."

-At Prom-

We, along with Katsumi and Misato, arrived a little early. The catering venue rented by the school was located in Shibuya, which explained the heavy traffic and why Aurelia and Aiko were delayed.

"Yo, is that the gremlin?" Kai's annoying voice came out of nowhere.

"Literally get out." I sighed, annoyed that I had to see that bitch every day.

He cast a glance at Misato, then retreated awkwardly to rejoin his friends.

Osamu raised a brow before whispering in my ear about the former couple. "Wait, aren't those two together?"

"No, they broke up like a month ago," I whispered back. "I'll explain the rest, later."

I really do have a bad habit of not explaining my school life to Osamu. Not that most of it is interesting anyway. Last week, some weird ass kid strapped a sandwich into the bus seat next to him. Like what did the sandwich do to him?

The room was spacious enough to accommodate the five hundred children who had registered. Colorful lights danced across the floor, casting a glow in the dimly lit space. This year, a sign-up sheet ensured that we all had seats together—myself, Osamu, Katsumi, Aurelia, Lew, Misato, Pes, Ami, Kazuo, and three last-minute additions. Aiko was supposed to join us too but opted to spend her final prom with her graduating older brother and his senior classmates.

Now at the table were only Osamu, Katsumi, Ami, and myself. Pes and Kazuo had decided to confront Kai about the entire Misato situation.

"You did not actually spend $16 on sharks again," I sighed.

Katsumi pouted, pulling a plastic lemon shark from her purse. "But they're sharks."

Osamu gave her a disapproving look. "That thing goes everywhere with you, doesn't it?"

It made sense though, since I never saw her without that lemon shark either. It was always in her pocket whether it was at work, school, or in public.

"Hey guys." Aurelia smiled, as she and Lew took a seat. "Sorry we're late, we got caught up in traffic."

"Hey!" We all greeted her back.

She checked her surroundings before speaking up in a hushed tone. "Where's Misato, I thought she came with you?"

We all glanced around, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"Do you think they're together again?" I questioned, attempting to look out of the door and into the other room.

"No, Kai is over there with your other two friends," Osamu interjected.

"Not Kai and Misato, Jin and Misato," Aurelia corrected.

"Wait, they're dating?" My brunette asked, completely invested.

"Girl, you don't tell him shit." Aurelia chuckled at me.

"My bad."

"I guess I'll explain it again with my amazing story telling skills." Katsumi adjusted her sparkly champagne colored dress before spilling the tea. "Let's start with Kai and Misato's breakup. They were together for almost two years, and they split because she lost feelings and felt like he was using her." For some reason, Katsumi glanced at me when saying the last part. "Literally the day after, Jin swooped in, meeting up with her after almost every class. It wasn't weird at first, but we soon realized that it was weird since he openly had a crush on her when she was taken. Even before they broke up, she was getting a bunch of small gifts from Jin. At this point, she and Kai were still friends, so she still called him a lot."

"So, you're saying that Jin basically bribed Misato away from Kai?" Osamu concluded.

"Not exactly," I answered.

"As I was saying," Katsumi continued. "She didn't even wait two weeks before they did things together, and she doesn't know we even know this. She told everything to Kai, her ex, and nothing to us, her friends. I get that she doesn't have to tell us everything, but why tell everything to someone you claim to hate and not us? The only reason that we know this is because Kai can't keep his trap shut."

My boyfriend looked flabbergasted. "That was fast."

"There's more, which kinda makes us assholes," I added. "None of us like Jin, especially since he had a crush on literally everyone in our friend group."

"Wait, he liked you?" Osamu frowned, looking into my eyes. "No wonder I didn't like him from the start."

I smiled at his reaction before continuing. "We found anyone we could to fill up the table, so Jin couldn't sit with us. I know it's mean, but he's been acting weird around us ever since he started talking with her, and it makes us feel uncomfortable. Misato knows that we don't like him either, so I wouldn't be surprised if he knew this already."

The brunette rested his arm on the back of my chair, as he leaned back to look out the double doors. "Why don't we go see for ourselves?"

Us three girls looked at each other and nodded. "We're in."

Katsumi, Aurelia, Osamu, and I stepped out of the room into the hallway. Aiming for discretion, we queued up at the drink stand, using the opportunity to survey the room. As expected, Misato and Jin were by one of the expansive windows, hand in hand, gazing into each other's eyes.

"They literally look like NPCs," Aurelia pointed out.

"They do," Katsumi agreed.

I just don't get it. Where'd this sense of mistrust come from?

Once we had our drinks in hand, we made our way back to the dance floor just as my favorite song started playing. Osamu seemed to catch the spark in my eyes at that moment and reached for my hand.

"Come on, I know you want to."

I just smiled, taking his hand and following him onto the dance floor. My hands rested on his chest, while his rested on my waist. Peacefully, we swayed back and forth to the music. Towards the middle of the song, he picked up my chin so I could look at his beautiful brown eyes.

"I love you, (Y/n)."

"I love you too, Osamu."

He gently kissed my lips as I lost myself in the moment. Not even the flash from Katsumi's camera broke me away from my trance. Nothing in this world could ever separate me from this feeling.
