"Nice try, sergeant." Ranpo once again patted the man's shoulders. "Too bad, you've got ways to go before your case solving skills match mine. But don't feel bad, you've been useful. You helped us prove that Minoru's best detectives are inferior to me."

"Cut the crap!" Detective Minoru grumbled. "I'm tired of all your jabber, you can't crack hard cases with just deduction. You've been reading too many crime novels. Cases are solved through investigation: interviewing people of interest and closely analyzing the crime scene."

"Uh-huh, you've got a pretty big skull," the childish man mocked. "Great detectives don't do investigations. My ability, Ultra Deduction, can instantly identify the killer. I can also figure out when and how the murder was committed. But wait, there's more. I can see in the killer's mind how to make them confess and where the evidence lies to prove our case. My power truly is a rare gift."

"Given my line of work, I know all about you gifted types and your powers," Detective Minoru gritted his teeth. "But if you have such a special ability, then why do my colleagues and I still have a job?"

"My thoughts exactly, now we're starting to understand each other, detective."

"You little bastard-"

Realizing a confrontation was imminent, Osamu positioned himself protectively in front of Ranpo. "Now, now Detective, please pardon my colleague's tactless behavior."

"You can't stop bragging about your ability, so let's have a look at it."'

"Really? So, I guess I'm on the case. You should've just asked me nicely when I first got here." Ranpo took his glasses out of his pocket, ready to tackle the case at hand.

"Watch closely now, Atsushi," I heard the brunette mumble to the newbie. "Once Ranpo puts on his glasses, his Ultra Deduction will be activated." I watched the troublesome brunette hold on to a strand of Ranpo's hair. What the hell is he doing? We already know that Ranpo doesn't actually have an ability.

"Ability: Ultra Deduction!" After a brief pause, Ranpo began to speak. "Yes, I see."

"Huh, I see my ass," the older detective joked. "You're trying to tell us you know who the killer is?"

"Of course." This man will soon understand why Ranpo is our most valued member. "The killer is... you." The man pointed at the officer. "I know you did it, Sergeant Sugimoto."

"Huh?" He sweat dropped.

"He did it?" Atsushi questioned.

Detective Minoru let out a laugh. "Sergeant Sugimoto works for me on the force."

"Sergeant Sugimoto is the one that killed her," Ranpo reiterated.

"Ridiculous! What stupid killer would want to come to the scene of the crime?!"

"I think the answer to that is pretty obvious," I interjected. "What better way to prevent yourself from being caught than knowing every detail of the ongoing investigation?"

"Correct," Ranpo nodded. "And in case I didn't mention it, I know where we can find the evidence to prove it." He turned back to the murderer. "Let me see your gun."

"Y-you've gotta be kidding me." The suspect was definitely on edge, though anyone would be after such an accusation. "I can't just hand over my firearm to a civilian, they would take my badge away!"

"How convenient for you, Ranpo." Detective Minoru cockily placed his hands on his hips. "Your source of evidence is the one thing you can't look at."

"But look at it this way," he countered. "If we examine that gun and come up empty, then you prove you're right and I'm an idiot with a big mouth."
