You say nobody can hurt me
When you're here, beside me,
But the silence between your words
Cuts deeper than any absence.
I am told I'm safe in your arms,
A shield from the world's cruelty,
But how do I explain
The weight of the love you hold over me?
You laugh when I stumble,
And call it a lesson.
You hold me close,
But I feel the squeeze, the grip too tight.
What is protection,
When the walls become the cage?
What is love,
When the comfort stings more than the cold?
I hear the echoes of your promises,
Yet in them, I lose myself.
No one can hurt me, you say,
But no one knows the scars you leave unseen.
