" Coooooooole."
" Mmmmmm."
" Coooooooole."
" What?"
" Co-"
" WHAT?!" Cole barked as he sat up.
Mia grinned. " Good. You're awake.
Cole could barely see her in the dark. " Mia, what time is it?"
" Three."
" THREE?!" he screeched.
Mia nodded. " Mhm! Come on, let's go patrol the night!"
But Cole was already asleep again.
Mia sighed. Being seven and waking up at three wasn't really helpful.
Ah well. Might as well be useful.
She could bake some bread!
****
Mia hummed to herself as she kneaded the dough, the rhythmic motions calming her down as she worked. She was on a mission-baking the perfect loaf of bread while the house was still quiet. The smell of fresh dough filled the kitchen, and Mia's eyes sparkled with excitement. It was a secret project, and she wasn't going to let anyone ruin it.
Suddenly, the soft patter of footsteps echoed from the hallway. Mia paused, her hand still on the dough.
"What's going on?" a groggy voice asked.
Mia glanced over her shoulder to see Kai, still half-asleep and rubbing his eyes. His hair was a mess, and his pajamas were wrinkled from his impromptu nap.
"I'm baking bread!" Mia said brightly, as though it were the most normal thing to be doing at 3 AM.
Kai blinked at her, clearly not registering the situation just yet. "Bread?" he repeated slowly, like the word itself had no meaning at that hour.
"Uh-huh! Want to help?" Mia asked, grinning.
Kai yawned. "Help with bread... at 3 AM?" He scratched his head, still trying to shake off the sleepiness. "Why are you awake? And more importantly, why are you awake baking?"
